Qtek 8310 help needed

Hi everyone. I know you are all going to have a go at me for this but I need to ask anyway.

I recently bought a qtek 8310 unlocked handset, if I put in a pay as you go card (ie orange) everything works fine as all set-up details are held on the sim, so I know the phone works properly. But I want to use the phone with my existing Vodafone contract sim. I have been in touch with HTC, Vodafone and many forums including this one. I am trying to get the settings for GPRS, MMS etc. Each place I have phoned or looked through has different settings, and I have manually put these in (Vodafone cannot give me over the air settings) many times, using the different settings provided. I thought at one point everything was set-up (strangely by copying as much as possible from my C500) but MMS didn't want to work.

Since then, nothing. I have soft re-set, hard re-set, altered all settings again and again.

So after the whinge, here is my simple question. Does anyone own a Qtek 8310, running Vodafone contract correctly, including MMS, GPRS etc, and if you do can you please please give me a list of the definitive settings required?

Please don't send me to other threads unless you know they work, even the setting in the repository at http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=4861&st= didn't work. Things left out, different settings from different people etc.

I have lost a lot of hair, and only have one more attempt before I give in, sell the phone and get a nokia N95.

Cheers if you can help.

Steve

Indeed you would indeed think that. First off, although the phone in there system is a vodafone v1240, the only way they can find it on their system is by calling it a qtek v1240. Didn't fill me with hope. After 5 attempts, all hope was gone. They can't do it over the air, and everything they told me just got me as far as everything working, including GPRS, but still with no MMS ability. I have no idea why.

I have since managed to get everything working, by trial and error, and just changing settings as best I can. Worryingly I have bastardised the settings from my c500, and although I can now send MMS messages, the settings bear little resemblence to those given to me. Mainly as I am not using ip address everywhere they said to put them. I don't know how this may come back to haunt me later.

Attached is a word doc with all my settings on it. If you have any coments i'd be glad to hear them.

Cheers,

Cheers for the help. If I talk to Vodafone, there are no proxy settings. Hey ho. It's very confusing. They don't do dial up either. I'm not sure what mine is connecting to and when, I really want to conect using wi-fi whenever possible, and only use GPRS etc if really have to because of cost.

I might delete the dial up and see iff mms still works.

Haven't thought about the vox. I don't know much about it.

Cheers

Hey have you used this utility?

I saw people talking about it yesterday, its a utility made by HTC very recently as it is designed for the HTC Vox so it must have the up to date settings.

Simply connect your Qtek 8310 to active sync run the setup and select Vodafone and it will install all the required vodafone contact settings on your device.

Hope this helps and works.

No problem, the smartphone repostitory is good but I find some of the settings are uneeded and out of date.

The should have a cab section, as well as some cabs dont work on PPC and Smartphone its oooh so confusing!

Hey I like this idea, and I might indeed try it. Only problem I have is that one of my first stops was phoning HTC. as they ake the phone, and although they were very helpful, at the end of it I still had a phone that wouldn't send or recieve MMS messages. I wouldn't mind but i don't even use it that much, but whenI first changed to new phone a friend sent me a message that it told me was there but i couldn't get it properly, and as it siad it had started to try to download, thereforeI couldn't get onto a web site to view it. And believe me it was worth looking at :P

As I have the setting that I know seem to work......and by the way I have deleted the dial-up settings (just in case) and all still works.....I might well try this utility as I would like to have the correct settings, because at least i know I can always put it back

Cheers guys, i'll let you know what happens.
