Hi,

Anyone else having problems with GPRS? Mine seems to keep getting in a state where I can't browse anywhere or download email. The browser shows "Locating..." for about 30 seconds, then gives an error "The page cannot be found". Email gets stuck on "Connecting.....", then says "Cannot connect to the incoming mail server".

If I reboot the phone, it starts working again. Disconnecting GPRS and reconnecting doesn't seem to helpIt works fine on the WLAN.

Could it be a dodgy handset?

i cant seem to switch gprs off. it is constantly on. with previous models, you could hold the end key or keep the home button pressed and you could disable it. any ideas?

There's another thread about this:

It does seem a bit weird after being used to switching it off. I guess you only get charged for actual data transferred, so I might start leaving it on.

all well and good in theory regards the charging aspect but the phone will have to drop the GPRS attachment to receive/make a call.

I have had it (admittedly not with the Vox) where the GPRS session hasnt been disconnected and i've missed a number of calls... Not wanting to scaremonger but i dont think a GPRS/EDGE connection making itself active and not disconnecting is a minor thing...

guess what...

i woke up to my E650 this morning to find the GPRS little G by the signal meter... Couldnt switch it off in Comm Manager - so i had to initiate an IE browse and THEN Comm Manager agreed that a GPRS attachment and let me turn it off.

I'm a bit anxious as the cost side of things could get a little daft if the device is decding to hook up and sending spurious data..

has anyone looked into this? I will try to see if there is any information anywhere a bit later on today but if people know of a bug report thats been acknowledged that wuold be a start...

Had you received a MMS?

BTW, having a GPRS connection won't make you miss calls.

I NEVER disconnect my GPRS, and get all my calls fine. Push mail would be kinda pointless otherwise

didnt think of checking MMS inbox.. but nothing there... so i dont have any idea why a GPRS session was initiated.

As for missing calls, i use TomTom One's traffic notices thru my works Nokia 6230i and its flakey at the best of times. Sometimes it will put a call thru but a number of times i will get a voicemail text saying i've got messages that would have been calls if i hadn't been getting traffic details.

As for a continuos GPRS session - cant push e-mail construct a session on demand? MMS's dont require a permanent GPRS attachment to deliver immediatley.

Push email by SMS notification (a-la-MMS) isn't really that practical. It was how it used to be done before the data sessions were maintained for a proper push experience.

Erm... when I go to the connection manager and click the "data connection" icon, the G symbol in the top right of the taskbar goes away. I take that to mean that I can turn off GPRS manually via the connection manager? (irrespective of whether it actually is worth doing)

edit : doh! never mind, didn't bother clicking the linked page before replying. Sorry

to resolve this problem:

Go to: HKLM-->Comm-->ConnMgr-->Planner-->Settings-->SuspendResume

and delete ~GPRS! value.

This value was couseing phone to keep active gprs connection by any meanings. When you delete it, red button will close the connection again
