forced to transfer from palm OS

Newbie here....

After 10 years using the palm software, my parent company is forcing us to all go on WM5, in my case the "Q".

It seems dramatically different, but from what I understand I will appreciate it more on MS exchange server. Using XP I'm a master... I just want less moves when trying to send a text, or quickly dial someone.

What am I looking for??

simple stuff first... volume control for all settings...

now software... an sms string as opposed to what is currently on there.

a quick dialer, such as on the palm os... on screen, favorites not speed dialers. (pictures not necessary)

I guess the top software that make this easier and more customized.

Any help would be appreciated.... by the way... why is the delete button totally out of the way? I keep hitting the return key when typing.

Will someone help me turn this in to a palm so I can remain a closet palm user? (I do like the thin look of the q though.

Hi welcome to the forum.

When you say volume control for all settings, what exactly do you mean? The settings menu will have a sounds option for ringtones and message alerts, and editing a specific profile will allow you to set the volume level of each.

SMS string, i'm guessing that this is the little app that connects sms messages in to something resembling an IM convo? Unfortunately i don't *think* theres anything like this available.

Quick dialer, you know you can just start typing a contacts name from the homescreen and it will automagically filter your contact list? Pressing the Green call key will bring up your most recent calls too (this is included in the typing filter).

I've only seen and used a Q once or twice so not so sure about the keypad layout! Let me know if i've missed any of your points, hope this helps!

it's a shame they didn't put you onto the treo 750 - windows mobile 5, but for a palm user it'd be good. has the thread sms and most other things you want.

guess there wouldn't be a way to convince them to another wm5 phone instead of the q

it guess one thing that will be hardest for you at first is lack of touch... palms are fairly dependent on the screen aren't they?

anyway good luck (hope it wasn't off topic/section to mention 750)
