1 unread message...but no messages?

HEy guys, sorry im new to these forums..i tried to search this topic but couldnt find anything but heres what is going on with my 8525:

Today i recieved a text message and checked and replied to it as normal..but instead of it going back to "no unread messages" on the front screen it still says "Text messages: 1 unread". i have no unread messages, i turned it off and back on, took the battery and SIM card out, deleted every message i had stored on my phone (it even says "0 messages, 1 unread" at the bottom)

so my question is...how do I correct this??? I think maybe a reset would work..but i have no had this phone long and dont know how. Is there a reset I can do that wont delete everything off of it?
