Set up a GPRS data connection for WAP and Internet

info

Before you can access WAP and Internet services from your phone, you need to set up a data connection. You can choose between using GSM or GPRS as data bearer. With GPRS you are always connected to the network, whereas with GSM you need to dial up every time you want to use WAP and Internet. Follow these instructions to set up a GPRS data connection for WAP and Internet.

1

Find "Advanced"

* Press Start.

* Press Settings.

* Press the Connections tab.

* Press Connections.

* Press the Advanced tab.

2

Create new connection settings for WAP and Internet

* Press Select Networks.

* Press New... below Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using.

3

Enter connection name

* Press the Enter a name for these settings input field and key in T-Mobile GPRS

* Press ok.

4

Edit connection

* Press the Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using drop down list.

* Press the connection settings you have just set up (T-Mobile GPRS).

* Press Edit... below Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using.

5

Create new data connection

* Press New....

* Key in T-Mobile GPRS

6

Select connection type

* Press the Select a modem drop down list.

* Press Cellular Line (GPRS).

* Press Next.

The APN name general.t-mobile.uk must be in lower case letters.

7

Enter APN name

* Press the Access point name input field and key in general.t-mobile.uk

* Press Next.

8

Enter username

* Press the User name input field and key in user

9

Enter password

* Press the Password input field and key in one2one

10

Delete domain name

* Press the Domain input field and make sure the field is empty.

You do not need to edit the settings in Advanced....

11

Save settings

* Press Finish to save the settings and return to the list of data connections.

12

Activate data connection

* Press the data connection you have just set up (T-Mobile GPRS) to mark it.

* Press ok to activate the data connection.

13

Exit

* Press ok twice to exit the menu item.

* Press Close several times to return to stand-by mode.

The APN seems to be correct.

Are you able to try the following in another GPRS phone to prove it works OK with your SIM ? Just make sure you enter general.t-mobile.uk and not general.t-mobile.co.uk

Access point: general.t-mobile.uk

User name: user

Password: one2one

Alternatively you could try password=wap and see if you get the same error.

Access point: general.t-mobile.uk

User name: user

Password: wap

I can't remember if you need to add the proxy server address with WAP on T-mobile.

Proxy: 149.254.1.10

Do you have the full internet package, or just the limited less expensive package?

I have the less expensive package, and T-mobile stopped allowing access for me in the past couple days. They say my phone is "not compatible", though I've been using it fine for months. I'm in the US though, so might well be different situations.

but if you are using a less expensive package, I would suspect t-mo has blocked access to get you to "upgrade" your plan. Argh.

Good luck,
