few questions about some things on pdadb, macro mode (AF) and TMC

hey guys there were just some features on pdadb i didnt know what they were.

so take this comparison chart for example.

what does TMC under satilite navigation mean?

and also if you look under where it talks about the camera, if the device doesnt have macro mode but it does have autofocus, is it the same thing? except it automaticly switches to macro mode for you? is it as powerful as macro mode?

Traffic Message Channel - sends traffic and travel information typically via FM radio signals. More info here:

Autofocus - the camera will automatically select the best focus for the item you are taking the picture of to ensure it is as sharp as possible

Macro mode - a facility for taking very close up shots of objects, often by means of selecting a different lens (on PDA's anyway). May or may not be used with autofocus depending on the camera, they are two separate technologies

the kaiser only has autofocus, so would that mean it wouldnt be as great for taking close up pics? or should it be the same? or perhaps no one knows yet?

Correct, the Tytn (M3100/Trion/Vario II) with its macro mode would in theory take better close up pictures (and I mean really close up, less than 3-4 inches / 8-10 cm) than the Kaiser.

But I had the M3100 for months and I think I used it once and that was only because I'd left my proper camera at home.

i wonder why htc would take a good feature away from the camera on one of their best phones? guess we just have to wait and see how well it's auto focus is.

Don't think I've EVER used macro.

Autofocus, on the otherhand, is something that makes a real difference over fixed focus!

is that a bad difference? are you saying autofocus only helps a little?

never used macro huh? well if you ever get your hands on an htc hermes try the macro, it takes great pictures.

this wasnt the one i was looking for but i suppose it works.

it seems like the kaiser will use the same camera as the athena. if we could get some pics of the athena's camera then that would be helpful.

I've never needed to take a close up pic so never used Macro.

Fixed focus tries to keep everything in focus so nothing is sharp, auto focus actually focuses on what you are taking so it is in focus and is usually a LOT better than fixed focus.
