So I'm at the end of my MDA Vario contract, and wondering what happens next.

T-Mobile have offered me an upgrade to the Vario 2 for £50 (which I notice can be had for nothing from other sites) but that seems like relatively old technology (what with WM6 and everything).

Does anyone know of any upcoming Pocket PC releases from T-Mobile? I didn't get much out of them when I called.

I guess the best bet would be to wait, then upgrade when something new and shiny is released.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm in the same position as you. My Vario contract is up tomorrow so I'm looking around to see what can be had. My Vario has served me well and I'm in no particular hurry to upgrade it so I think I'll hold off until the Kaiser is available.

Your PPC choices really are limited to the Ameo or the Vario II for the moment. As much as I love both, the first is huge and you would really need to think about it before buying and the Vario II is as you say slightly old now and should be replaced by the Vario III (HTC Kaiser) sometime in the summer.

Me three, Vario contract was up about a month ago and dont know what to get, I would love the Kaiser, but there is no info anywhere about it on T-Mobile and no other UK carrier provides anything close to Web N' Walk.

Hope there is some news soon as my faithful Vario is on its last legs, I think the flexi cable for the display is on its way out as the screen keeps going all wobbly and blanks out at times...

One problem though, usualy you get a rubish deal to upgrade, so a new contract is the best rough, but I want to keep my number. Is the only way to do this to move my number off to a PAYG and then bring it back to t-mobile on the new contract?

nothing stopping you from getting say o2 sim card, porting the number across, then few weeks or so getting a new contract and porting from PAYG sim card back to t-mobile

i just had my T-mobile upgrade and i went for the vario II (only £20 for me) i had the vario 1 and the only thing i wanted on that was 3g lol am not too bothered about WM6, if i wanted to i could flash the vario II to have WM6 (if you know where to look :P )

Another person in the same boat... My Contract with T-Mobile is up soon but there are no devices out i like the look of, not even on other networks.

Currently 2 of my mates have the Compact III and 3 of them have the Vario II... so i cant get the same!!

And i really need an 'Unlimited' Data tarrif for my mobile e-mail, so i am limited with networks (i am currently on 40MB W'n'W promotion form 18 months ago)

HELP! i am stuck!

Any other handsets out there out of contract?

Me too!

really its gotta be the Kaiser, coming soon, or the Tinity offline from expansys for 370 quid. and they've got black ones

I cant decide between the two as I find myself using the hardware keyboard less recently. If I opt for the Trinity I'll probably get a new contract on T-Mo with an N95, flog it and use the cash to buy the Trinity

Why the 'Trinity' or 'Kaiser' whats so special about them to you?

I'm in roughly the same boat - although I'm a smartphone user rather than PPC. I emailed T-Mobile on 2nd May to ask about future Windows Mobile releases...still waiting for a reply.

The Trinity is a good device, built in GPS and just something different realy

having said that I probably am leaning toward the Kaiser, but the Trinity is another option to consider

the Kaiser will have WM6 of course, which is a big advantage

I have it on reasonable authority that Orange will launch this at some point this summer. My T-Mobile contacts are less certain but in all probability we will see this as the Vario III around the same time.

Then you have 4 options:

1) Get the Ameo

2) Get the Vario II

3) Get the Compact III

4) Get an N95, flog it on eBay and get a Trinity / Vox (S710) / Panda / other WM device of your choice.

Don't forget you can port out to a PAYG SIM card on another netowrk and come back as a new customer if you want a better deal.

Don't worry, I'm just being impatient. I've been watching the Kaiser for a while now so a should be able to hold on from a couple of months more.

There are rumours here

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=254663&hl=

saying that the Vario III release is imminent, here's hoping.

As for the other phones you mentioned, I use the keyboard a lot so my options are limited, and the Vario II is getting old now. A mate has the N95 and despite the fact I'm not keen on Nokia (I'm and SE junky at heart) it's not a bad phone. But I run Vista Media Centre at home and really want a WM6 device in hope that some cool Sideshow gadgets will be in the offing.

Oi that's what I said :P

That's probably what I'm gonna do, Trinity offline from expansys is 370 pounds, Kaiser may well be a bit more when it comes out.

N95s are going for around 250 to 300 quid on ebay at the mo, budget in another 100 pounds or so (sell your current device?) and you'll probably have enough for your new handset

Had the same idea and got an N95, to sell on.

I have decided to keep the N95 as the everything about it apart from the lack of qwerty and battery life are superb.

Camera, video browser especially are all far better than any WinMo at the mo.

So give the N95 a go for a few weeks and then sell it on.

Depends of course how much they sting you for an upgrade.

How are T-Mo for upgrades? I only ever upgraded once (with Orange) and got such a crap deal I've never done it since

what's that advert? 'Brand new customers only sir!' so true...

I don't think they're great for upgrades... I've finished my 18 month Web'n'Walk 200 contract and they're offering me a Vario II for....£289.99....

I'm waiting for the Kaiser and will get it on a new contract and maybe port my number over.
