T-mobile US customers PLEASE respond...

My t-zones connection (the 5.99/mo style) has stopped working as of yesterday morning. Is anybody else experiencing this?

Please leave a reply either way so I know if others are or aren't having this issue. If you could, note your location as well. I'm in Minneapolis, MN.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Jeff

Update...

Just talked to tech support. Got the lady to admit that they did a "security sweep" over the weekend and closed out holes in the system allowing users to get the full html browsing capabilities when they should not have been. All the while, of course, telling me that my SDA isn't compatible with t-zones - ignoring my repeated assurances that it IS and I had tech support help me set the thing up.

This is just garbage. They are purposefully stopping users with higher-end devices from accessing even WAP pages, when the devices absolutely support it. If I were still using my motorola, I would be able to visit the pages I'm trying to without problem, but because I paid $200 to upgrade my phone they take that away from me!?!?!?!?

All so they can talk me into spending $30/mo for the over-hyped "total internet" package. What if users don't want all that, but just want to check weather, traffic, and news from their phone?

All I know is unless they fix this (again), I'm letting the contract run out and heading for someone else...

Anybody else confirm they are affected by this?

Thanks,

Mine also stopped working. If it doesn't start working again I will be keeping my contract, but dumping edge and relying solely on wifi (sadly my work doesn't have wifi).

Thanks for the reply fellow Minneapolitan...

This pretty much sucks. I can't believe that I can't do all the stuff I usually do with my phone now. I feel robbed.

My phone is just a phone now.

Wifi isn't good enough for me, because we'll never have city-wide wifi here and I always used my phone to check weather and traffic on the go, not to mention using the sweet 411 program from blackberry 411 for addresses and phone numbers. Ugh.

Way to go T-Mobile. The T-zones was the major reason I stayed with them, as we have discounted rates with Cingular (not AT&T) through work but their data plan didn't look as good.

Argh. I'm keeping up the hope that it will suddenly start working again...SOON...

Thanks,

Jeff

We're pretty progressive here, we may get city wide wifi (I've read an article or two in the Strib that says it's being considered). Of course my work is in St. Paul and we both know those cheap jerks across the river will never have city wide wifi.

Perhaps someday...

FYI though, the WAP connection is now working again. So, if you set PIE to WAP connection and have an entry in the GPRS settings for WAP connection using wap.voicestream.com and no proxy, you should be able to surf again. Just no streaming, no google maps, and no huge files...

Let me know if you can't get it working...

Good luck,

You're right, the wap is working again. Sadly according to broadband reports speed test its only running at 13kb/sec.

Wow, I couldnt' even get a speed test to finish. Kept stalling at 8K loaded.

My speeds definitely suck though.

Oh well, certainly better than nothing...

Confirmed, I can use those settings as well with PIE set to Internet Connection.

However, I still cannot stream music from the streamcenter, etc, and still can't use the google maps java app.

but like I said, oh well. Better than nothing!!

RolandPhong, not sure why you're still not working. Try the SDA FAQ v2 over at hofo and see if those settings work for you. Set your connection in the PIE settings to "The Internet" once you've got everything set up...

Good luck!

I haven't really tested streaming, but I know mpr works (I accidentally opened the wrong favorite and then got distracted so I didn't notice until it started playing).

mpr worked?

Sounds like you're able to stream. I'll have to try again and see what happens.

can you post the link to mpr for me?

THanks,

Okay this is odd. Can anybody else confirm this or offer ideas as to why...

I AM indeed able to stream radio stations, but only if I use Windows Media Player on the phone. I have to UNcheck the file association for windows metafiles (asx, etc) in TCPMP in order for media player to open them, but once it does they play just fine.

TCPMP always worked before, but now it gives the good old "Cannot open URL" after about 30 seconds of trying. I can't find any settings that pertain to the network in TCPMP, so if I'm missing something please let me know.

ALSO - I still can't use google maps (java version). It loads but doesn't show any map data as it can't connect. I've tried setting it to use both the internet and the WAP connection. No go.

Very strange that media player is working at all for this. I can't imagine what it is doing that TCPMP and the midlet manager aren't. Oddly enough, in my network settings in media player it is set to use the WiFi/LAN, all three protocols are checked, and in the box for the port it has 11280. Pretty sure I didn't put that in there... :/

Any thoughts, similar circumstances, different circumstances, etc?

Thanks,
