Guest Dumb Tony Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Just bought a Qtek 8310 (v1240) with wi-fi. What a great idea. Can I ask a really, really dumb question (hence the name) - if I find a wi-fi hotspot to access my e-mail etc (eg Starbucks) am I paying anything to my phone company for that priviledge. I know that I pay for GPRS connections but what about wi-fi? Thanks  Dumb Tony
Guest Confucious Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Welcome to the forum! First off, it's not a dunb question and I think you'll regret chosing that username when you're stil posting and helping others in a couple of years  GPRS/Edge/YMTS (3G) are all over the air and provided by your phone company so you pay for them, WiFi is provided by the WiFi hotspot so you do not pay your phone company. It depends where you are as to the price of Hotspots their are some free ones (at least here in the UK - not sure where you are!) The main problem with WiFi in my experience is that it drains your battery! Do not expect very good battery life if you are using it. Good luck.
