Corrupt files

Hi,

I have my current ring tone stored on the SD card, however, recently for no apparent reason the file (together with a couple other ringtones also stored on the root of my SD card) became corrupt. A couple of files in a program folder on the SD also have been corrupted (possibly unrelated, but seems unlikely).

The ringtones I have had no choice but to delete, however, the files in the program folder will not allow themselves to be deleted. Any ideas how I can get rid of the files without copying my entire SD contents to my PC, excluding the files, then formatting the SD card and copying everything back again. A couple of the files (though not all), contain square symbols in the file name, which the OS does not seem to like.

The messages I receive when trying to delete the files are -

- Access is denied (make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use); or

- Problem deleting file

I have tried to delete the files via activesync, but it would not let me. And no, the files are not write protected or in use and the disk is not full.

Anyone come across this before? I have had the same problem previously once before, but on a different device, with the program Mobiluck (which I do not have now). The program files renamed themselves with symbol keys and could not be deleted.

The only program recently installed is F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus, which I thought I would test. This does scan all files apparently. Not that I have ever heard of a proper virus on a PPC device. My phone is the Vario II.

I've had that problem a few times. You might try putting the card in a card reader and deleting them from there, but more than likely since the files contain a corrupted character they still wont be able to be deleted from there either, but it's worth a try anyhow. Unfortunately I've always ended up having to reformat and put everything back on it, but you might get lucky. Ever since the first time it happened though I've always kept a backup of my SD card on my computer just in case that happens and believe me, it's come in very handy way more than once.

These random SD card corruptions seem to be affecting a number of devices, but seem more common with MicroSD cards, possibly related to their relatively slow write speeds.

If you have Windows Vista, it might be worth putting the card in a USB card reader and inserting it in the PC. A number of people have found that Vista then opens the Files Wizard, notes the corruption and fixes it. Not every time, but often!

Yes, that happened to me a few days ago. In my case, the device memory and microdrive were also locked up. I could create new files and directory but could not change or delete them. If this happens to my desktop file, there is an unlock program to deal with it, not I couldn't find an equivalent unlock program for WM5. Once I hard resetted it, I could delete files in all three (device, MD, & SD) again.However, as soon as I did a database restore with Sprite, all three become locked up again. So, I had to do a second reset, this time restoring only the system data, and leaving the application data untouched. When I did this, the device started acting very abnormally. Also, all the files are still locked. Every single files were locked.So, the third reset. This time, I did not use Sprite restore. I lost a day's data in that way, but now all files are released.So, I don't think any of your files are corrupted. They are merely locked by the operating system in an unintended way. Probably a bug. What we need is an unlock utility similar to that in XP environment.Hope this helps.
