from what I understand you can only unlock it by paying for a sim unlock. Has this changed?

If you're still a T-Mobile subscriber, just call and tell them you're going out of the country. They'll help you unlock it.

It has some good advice for general unlocking information - see unlocking.pdf file. Its an older post but I used the information to modify my dash with WM6 for a different issue. I did not unlock my dash but thought the info might help you.

I used regeditSTG2 and had no problem with editing WM6 on my dash. I got the regeditSTG2.exe from the link at the end here instead of using the .zip file: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=251706 - see "Bocsta"s with added files you may require.
