Guest madu Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Just installed Opera on my work PC running W95 on PPro and 64RAM [absolute shite]. I checked Mozilla and Netscape (same thing really) and obviously IE. Guess what>!? OPERA IS DAMN GOOD!! Beats 'em all!! Very fast and after playing 10 min. with it, I am very delighted.. Now, there is a feature in IE when you type in say 'yahoo' and press ctrl+enter it adds www.-.com to it. How is that done in Opera?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Now, there is a feature in IE when you type in say 'yahoo' and press ctrl+enter it adds www.-.com to it. That's so cool!
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Never knew that ,cheers madukrainian
Guest midnight Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 opera doesnt do that as far as i know, to be honest, i dont like opera, its down to personal preference at the end of the day (and as a web developer its a nightmare, too many damn agents)
Guest Palindrome Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I like Opera for the mouse gestures. And the fact it doesn't reload every page whenever the back button is pressed. Sadly it has bugs, in every release since I've been using it (5.0) but overall I am happy using it. Plus, it ain't microsoft. Such a shame they won't be releasing a pocket version of it.
Guest fraser Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 madukrainian, Syvwlch, some more IE shortcuts that I find very useful: Ctrl-N new browser window Alt-Home go to homepage Backspace back button F4 address bar and of course, the all-time classic: Alt-F4 close any annoying popup window!!!! Keyboard shortcuts rule. Mice are for wimps!!
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Thanks Fraser , the close popup windows one is the best
Guest fraser Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Alt-F4 is an old one, it's basically "close current window" and it works in 99% of Windows software. You can get a laugh out of it as well...I've seen people say "press Alt-F4 for God Mode" on online games and IRC/MSN etc. Whenever someone says it, you get: <"newbie user 1" has left> <"another newbie" has left> I've never said it myself, but I still laugh when someone else does and someone falls for it!!
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 HAHA  ,i'll try that next time i'm playing Quake 3 Arena ;)
Guest fraser Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Oh yeah, no one got the joke either. Or perhaps it wasn't funny... Mice are for wimps!! WIMP: Old acroymn for "Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer", i.e. a GUI operating system like windows.
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Nah, i didn't get it :? , Hadn't even heard of it until you just said  I do nearly everything from my keyboard anyway
Guest midnight Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 i tend to use ctrl+w to close windows for some reason
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 i'm on a tablet PC and have NO keyboard... quite frustrating at times.
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 What's the Tablet PC like, is it any good ?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Depends for what ... Great for surfing and reading and such, but not so great when ever you have to enter text...
Guest casper508 Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 People who have been using PCs from the DOS and pre DOS era tend to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I for one love using shortcuts. I still remember that day when I used win 98 without a mouse for awhole week cos my lil cousin while playing with the mouse, hid the ball somewhere n forgot about it! ;) Needless to say I ended up memorising every damn shortcut there was!! (gone very off topic in an off topic post  ) I've used Opera a little bit and from what i remember, it used to be faster than IE or Netscape. Pitty they don't have an alternative to the ctrl-enter shortcut. Cas
Guest madu Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Well, it has just crashed... And it wouldn't refresh Modaco pages as i see, so when u actually hit 'reload' it resets the red folders.. Or is it just me?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 In Opera (which I love), to go to www.modaco.com for example, just type modaco in the address bar and press enter! P
