So my old T-Mobile MDA Compact II has been sitting around for a bit and I have gone back to a 'basic' phone; but my sister has recently caught eye of it and wants to use it ... unfortunately I have forgotten my pw when windows mobile loads up. From online gaming to bank card pws I don't even remember what it is anymore, (my ex might have changed the pw too :\ ); and me trying has only pushed to cooldown timer a tad far. So my question is is there anyway to soft reset the windows mobile pw? (without having to dish out like 100 dollars at some store; when they prob take like less than 2 mins  ) The phone is relatively new as I haven't really used it before it started collecting dust, so I don't want it to see it go to waste; but I don't want to spend good money when it can be used to go toward the purchase of a newer phone if worse comes to worse. So even if I want to sell it off; I don't want to have my personal information and phone #'s sitting there.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to MoDaCo :D

Looks like you will have to hard-reset the device which will return it to it's 'out-of-the-box' state... Normally a pain in the arse as you lose all your data (phone numbers, personal information etc) on there. However, if its been sitting around for a while, I doubt you have anything worth keeping on there :D

Instructions can be found HERE

For future reference, the MDA Compact II is also known as the HTC Charmer, which has its own sub-forum located HERE :P

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds a bit fishy, kind of like the phone wasn't his in the first place. It's his old phone, but it's new and he never used it but it's got personal info on it. And if he never used it, why the hell would his ex change the password on it? Unless maybe it was hers to begin with. Then again, I could be wrong.

Thanks Phil for the welcome, and thank you for the help, it is greatly appreciated; btw why is it called the 'charmer'? Sounds like a womans phone  . I sort of got that feeling too via the packaging lol ... and the alternate colour release.

And in response to xeno1 ... long story; but my father bought it on his trip to hong kong, when I got the device the box was actually in German but he didn't notice; so all the manuals/software etc made it impossible to operate other than via searching for online help. Hence I couldn't even figure out how to hard reset with no english manual; hence someone refered me to this site~ I scoured the T-Mobile site for help but was hard to even find a trace of help, getting kicked back and forth; and considering T-Mobile isn't even avail in Canada (United States only in North America; and they didn't even have this model released, so no help there) ... yea major problems. I didn't have the need for online capabilities; so using it as a Pocket PC was sort of pointless as I had nothing worthwhile to do with it. And since I didn't have a bluetooth head phones, it sort of rendered the phone a bit painful to use like a reg phone imo; just felt weird plus I didn't want to get the screen all oily :\ ~ so yea it has been been inactive for a while.

Sorry Mundane if the phone really is yours. I've had a few phones stolen before and when someones first post on here is about how they forgot their password and want to know how to get around it I get a little suspicious. What better way is there than to go to the people who know their way around these phones when you need to get past someone else's password. I'm not saying that that's what you're doing because I don't know that for a fact and your last explanation of your situation seems a lot more reasonable. I just don't want to be helping someone that's going to be using that help for the wrong reasons. If for some reason you decide to keep the phone after you get past the password problem and need some help with anything, I'd be more than happy to help you if I can. The Doctor's instructions should help you get past the password anyway.
