What windows media "thing" did you just upgrade to 6? What version of windows are you running on your computer?

Hello,

same problem for me with a computer running XP SP1.

I try to install activesync 4.5 and i have a error message (before the end of install).

the error message is :

"Error. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.

A dll required for this install to completed could not be run.

Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

After close the error message, install is aborded (and nothing is installed)

I read a lot on internet about this problem and i'm not alone with this problem (a lot have this problem) but for the moment i don't see any solution.

The problem is to know the name of this dll, know if the dll is missing on Windows or in the package (in this case easy to download) or if the dll is here (package or Windows) but crash when installer try to launch the dll (more complicated to find why).

The error message is too simple and don't say the name of the dll.

I try to install it on a second computer with Windows XP SP1 and same error !

I also try different version language, same error (to be sure it's not a problem of my file installer).

I can't for the moment install activsync 4.5 (on two computer using XP SP1)

I try to install 4.2 and no problem, work perfectly just that 4.2 not support WM6 and i need WM6 support for my future s710 !

If someone have a solution a big thanks by advance

PS:

I try also to install a old 4.5 beta 2, same error

I FOUND THE SOLUTION :) ;)

First i see in the setup.msi a file with WM10 (in the name)

I have WM9 (on my XP SP1) and it's why i install Windows Media 10 (not 11 because i have XP SP1 and if i remember 11 is for XP SP2).

I also install the last version of Windows installer (v 3.1)

I launch the install of Activsync 4.5 and YES install work perfectly :P

Don't know if it's the install of WM10 or Windows installer 3.1 that make the install work (perhaps windows installer or perhaps the two programs i don't know)
