Guest Mechanicaldan Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Hi All, I just stopped by a Vodaphone shop in Scotland over the weekend and had a hands on with the Vox, aka Vodaphone V1415. It sure was pretty. I've just moved from the US and had been using a AudioVOX SMT5600 (ha, I've been using a VOX for 2 years. ). Lovely phone, but unfortunately not quad band, so I can't use my company's SIM in it. :D The 2.4" V1415 screen is beautiful, and noticeably larger. The slide out keyboard is very nice, and the size, in my opinion is PERFECT! I've been considering getting a GPS device since moving over, so that I can use it when I travel. The VOX is available now, but the Wings is coming soon. The Kaiser would be really nice, but I'm afraid it might be a little too big for my taste. I need a phone I can put in my pocket, although the 2.8" screen would be really nice for being able to see while in the car. I don't want to carry around a seperate bluetooth GPS reciever. I'm just about at my wits end trying to use the supplied Nokia phone. It syncs with Outlook, but keeps screwing up my contacts, and I can't see any of the details of calendar appointment. The screen is tiny. So, what would you do? Get the VOX now and be instantly happy? Then maybe sell it and update when the Wings or Kaiser is available? OR, do I wait? Thanks, Dan :P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Neither the Kaiser nor Wings are particularly close I believe, so i'd go for the Vox now... particularly if you're still using a SMT5600 (Typhoon)! P
Guest conan_troutman Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 depends how much cash you gotto throw around...for me as I always buy SIM free phones and I am limited to to upgrading once every two to three years (recently had a 50% pay cut) then I will for the Wings...if you can afford to go for the vox then the wings when its released i would do that.
Guest Blaufeld Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Never wait for an item with a nebulous release date... I've upgraded to Vox+Tomtom, and the external gps antenna is little as a match box... now I'm very happy
Guest conan_troutman Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 (edited) I am waiting becouse I hope by the time the wings is released the Headset and carkit profile will be returned to the OS. also I prefer hard wired car kits the BT ones (i have both in my car for my qtek8310) so the first with a cradle for my carkit will get priority. but i am a patient man at times oh and the tomtom GPS is twice the size of match box and who wants to carry two peices of equipment when one will do. Guest skazz Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 oh and the tomtom GPS is twice the size of match box and who wants to carry two peices of equipment when one will do. Given that the Wings has the same stated battery (1050 mAh) as the Vox, yet is stated as having twice as fast processor and GPS, I assume you will suffer in terms of battery life compared to the two box option... Meaning that where those of us with the Vox and a miniscule GPS device can get 4-5 hours of navigation out of the Vox without needing a charger (bluetooth GPS devices generally do at least 8-10 hours on a single charge), you will probably need to consider a second battery or something like that to get the same thing out of Wings. Oh, and I personally have a holux Bluetooth GPS device which also uses mini USB charging, so I only have to take one charger with me on trips. Works really great.
Guest conan_troutman Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I genrally only use the GPS in the car so the battery isue isn't an issue for me...but I do get where your coming from...I will at leasr keep that in mind
Guest tumek Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 WAIT FOR DEAD. I use Vox with gps receiver. Battery lifetime is about 10 hours...
