....and it's mental  So much better than the original GBA it's unreal. Had to wait outside the shop this morning in order to get two for my kids' upcoming birthdays. Not cheap but worth every penny

I'm in 2 minds whether to get one :? would you mind answering a few questions for me :?:

A)how big is it :?:

B)is it really that much better than the GBA :?:

Thanks

No problem dude

A) It's tiny, about 8cm x 8cm x 2.5cm - feels lighter, too, although I haven't actually weighed it yet.

:D Yes, it is that much better - the screen is *superb*, better than the SPV's (that's saying something), the light is what the GBA was always missing. And, at last, Nintendo have finally made the shoulder-buttons useable ;) They're perfectly positioned for the index finger. Looks like the screen won't get scratched thanks to the fact that it folds (my son's GBA screen is now translucent because of the massive amount of scratches). Rechargeable battery pack! At bloody last  Nintendo claim 10 hours play on a full charge with the backlight turned on - not sure about that, but I've had about 5 hrs. so far and the charge LED's still green.

I'd say it depends on how desperate you are; like I said in the first post these two are really for my kids' birthdays, and I'd have had to live in a nightmare world of whining if I didn't manage to get the SPs (curse Nintendo DK's email-newsletters :( ) - were it up to me I'd wait a short while 'till the price drops a bit - I paid 1998 DKK this morning...(£184 at today's rate  )

Heh, if you're a GBA freak there's no choice ;) And with the new Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire....mental.

On a related subject: Am I the only one that thinks Tekken Advance is really crap in comparison to the PS version?

BTW: Woolworths had them for 80 quid this weekend...

of course tekken advance is nowhere near as good as the ps version, it aint 3d for a start, its more like street fighter/mortal kombat than tekken

Aye, right enough; I was thinking more about the missing "secret" characters in particular though.

You reckon? Nah, can't be, not when you think they can get 1 gig on an SD-card

Ace SPV site you've got there, by the way - different enough from the others to be really useful. Not slagging anyone else's off by saying this, though - big up to anyone who takes the time to make a site devoted to the SPV ;)

OMG i have both and i dont know how you said the new GBA screen was better than spv. at both modes spv is brighter and has more colours.

Sorry m8, but I wouldn't say "brighter and more colours" = "better screen"

The GBA SP's screen (we have two, in case you didn't get that) is better in two crucial areas:

sharpness (far sharper/better image quality than the SPV's)

it doesn't have the blue-tint that the SPV does.

These two things = "better screen", in my book.

The proof of the pudding with reference to the SPV's screen is that HTC have changed it for the Tanager...see some of Pauls' posts elsewhere on this site for his verdict (and some photos) of Tanager's screen.

In the end it's a matter of taste where colours are concerned; besides, how many colours do you think the most SPV apps/games use? The whole 65535-colour range? I doubt that. The idea of my reply was to help give folks an idea of just how much better the GBA SP's screen is than that of the "normal" GBA.

erm, chris, erm, what blue tint?

but yeh, the GBA SP screen is much better than the GBA screen. Oh and wait for my new game (bit of a secret at the moment, but screenshots soon) which has a very large colour palette

Heh - you're just going to use 65535 colours just to annoy me now ;)

Oh, BTW, I can't really see my SPV's blue-tint any more, it's more grey-translucent because of the dust. There's a particularly big dust particle in there that I'm getting quite attached to; I've been following it's journey around the screen with interest for a couple of weeks now

YAY, i'm getting my SP tomorrow, gonna trade in my gameboy advance and a few PS2 and XBOX games, should cut the cost of it a bit and it will be good for a 9 hour plane journey on Tuesday

Forget the GBA SP - whilst its a cool looking device the thing you should REALLY be going for is the one mentioned here.

... although with the 2.4Ghz multiplayer radio link it might not be suitable for use on planes.

Looks awful. All the games I want are on the GBA, and the quality of the SP is unreal - far better than any other handheld I've ever tried.

My son finally got his yesterday as it was his birthday, he's not put it down since.

David, what's App Singing? (your web link, left-menu) ;)

ChrisJM: damn right - don't you reckon that the screen lighting makes an amazing difference? My son got bored of Spyro because he couldn't see a thing when he was playing it, now it's become a decent game....
