BMW Bluetooth Preparation

Anyone know whether the BMW bluetooth preparation is compatible with any windows mobile handsets ?

I've found what looks like a fairly comprehensive listing of compatible handsets from BMW themselves HERE - however, bluetooth being a "universal language" if you like, I'm a little sceptical as to how accurate this list is.

Windows mobile's still don't account for a high percentage of mobiles sold, and I'd be surprised if BMW have tested anything we are all passionate about.

I surely hope that my HP iPAQ HW6915 (c/w Tom Tom) proves compatible, but would be interested to hear from anyone that has any experience of the BMW hardware/software and it's operation.

Paul - maybe you might be able to share you opinion of the Audi bluetooth software/hardware and it's compatibility with Windows mobile ?

As ever - all help appreciated.

God knows what BMW do to cripple their Bluetooth, and i count only maybe half a dozen phones on that list still on sale, let alone widely available. I wouldn't hold out much hope for Windows Mobile compatibility!

Have you any experience of the way it works Mono?

Keen to find out before my new motor arrives. I've seen the Audi verison in operation in a friends A4 recently - it appears to work well.

No experience i'm afraid, just chatted to a few people who have had problems with it! Of course it may be better nowadays, i guess you could book a test drive and bring your phone along with you?

I've just successfully paired my device with a BMW BT prepared 5 series - and made a call !

However, the software didn't appear to be able to "upload" (for want of a better expression) the contacts listing from my PPC to the car.

When my car arrives, I'll be able to play at more length..............I'll post again if I have any more success, for those that are interested that is.

Good news guys - my PPC pairs and works very well with the BMW Bluetooth.............................when it feels like it that is.

Honestly, when it does work it's brilliant, but there have been a one or two occasions so far when the device hasn't established the partnership.

I'm yet to establish why, nor able to establish how to rectify it on the go.

Shame really because it is simply great when it does work!

I have an X5 on the way, so I'm curious to learn if you've had better luck? I've heard there is some software, JETware ($15), that will improve the Windows Mobile bluetooth functionality. I may give that a shot if I run into problems.

Thanks!

Nuttzy - I've tried the JETware application and reckon it certainly did not improve performance any at all - keep the cash in yor pocket!

As far as the bluetooth is concened, I reckon I may have been being a little impatient at times.

Certainly, now, when I'm not desperately lookng for my PPC to pair as soon as I have turned the ignition on, I seem to be getting quite stable results.

The performance is second to non what with the voice activation that is built in to the beamer too.

I'd go as far as to say that 99% of the time, without any intervention, the ipaq pairs and synchs with my car perfectly well - not always instantly - but it gets there.

Hope this helps.

Yes, very helpful to know that I should not waste the $ ;) I've heard of problems ranging from not working at all, to kinda working, but not pulling down the address book. So I was estatic the day I picked my new SUV and it immediately pulled down the address book! I've had it about a week and so far the voice commands do seem to work very well.... waaaaaay better than the voice commands on my phone itself.

I did notice that more often than not, I need to turn off bluetooth on the phone and turn it back on again for the Bimmer to pick it up. Pretty trivial once you know.

The one thing I wish it had would be to pull down the actual addresses (not just names and phone numbers) so that I could have the nav system take me straight there. Oh well, I'm still really happy with the level of convergence so far. I have the iPod adapter also, and this by far kicks the butt of any other manufacturer integrated system. See my songs, playlists, etc. I'm in tech-geek heaven!

Thanks again for the advice!
