Guest brunoh Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Yesterday, I unlocked my SPV. It is realy easy in Switzerland after having done the first update, a hard reset and 'erase IPSM' does it. Before the reset I checked my versions: They were 1.2.4.3 and 3.0.12255.0. After the hard reset, I have still the same versions. When I start now Oracle Update, a new update is available for me: - ROM Update (v 1,24,3) I do not know, wheter this update can be seen by everybody in Switzerland, or whether this has something to do with me unlocking the SPV. If I read the description for this update, it sounds quite dangerous: In faulty german it says something like: Warning: This XDP ROM Update (V 1,24,3) can make your phone to stop workig. You can use the program of "lightning back" (sic!), when this happens. Has anyone an idea, what this update is? I do not want to loose my ability to run uncertified programs or even my phone. But there are for sure some things like 'hanging' that could profit from a good update. Thanks
Guest brunoh Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Sorry to Oracle. I meant "Orange Update" You can guess my profession now... ;)
Guest AsherUK Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Not sure what the update does or what it will fix, but you could always back-up your phones original config. by saving IPSM,GSM,WINCE & BOOTLOADER from the system menu, to an SD card, that way you *should* be able to go back to the original config. if the update modifies the "option" to de-certify. There is a post somewhere deep inside this forum relating to "ROM DUMP" .. which might give you some more info.
Guest brunoh Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Thanks, I have read the tip with backup/restore to SD-card. Currently, I do not have a free 64MB-Card, but I assume somebody here will have to be the first brave one to try it out. My phone currently works good, after the hard reset, so motivation is not too high...
