Guest marisa4755 Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Am running windows live mobile client and have read about the sync settings, I have set this to 'as items arrive'. I have read that although this seems to change itself back to manual, it does actually 'stick'. I am getting emails through OK, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how long they take to arrive. Some are almost instant, some are around 5 minutes, some are 20 minutes. Is anyone else finding this? Is it 'normal'. Obviously I have checked connectivity etc, and that has been good throughout.
Guest rdwars Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) My e-mail always arrives, more or less, depending on size, like 10 - 15 seconds after the sender has hit the 'send' button. I've never had any problem with that. I've set my sync as well to 'when items arrive' and it's never been changed back to manual automatically. If you check your mail account through the web on your computer, do you see items arrive instantly or do they take a while to arrive there as well? Edited June 8, 2007 by rdwars
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Mine arrives almost exactly 8 seconds after hitting my mailbox, every single time. How cool is this stuff? The time between a sender pressing Send and it reaching your mailbox can vary a lot though. I think emails generally "die" if they haven't been delivered within 7 days, so I guess the slowest it could be is 7days and 7 seconds
Guest marisa4755 Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 When I was using mail2web push email, those were the kind of timings I was getting too, but with the windows live client, it has taken up to 20 25 minutes. Anyway, I've uninstalled it now, it was making my whole system very slow and giving me all kinds of reset problems. Thanks for confirming what I thought, that there was something wrong with my set up on this.

I have the same problem, I change the values in the Sync Options to "As soon as they arrive" but when you check they have gone back to manual. Also I don't seem to get email coming through unless I click on Sync (or if I disconnect and then reconnect).
Guest coercri Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I've just been investigating in the registry, and have found what I think the value for sync schedule is, could someone who's email is syncing correctly tell me what value they have at - HKLM/Services/Windows Live/Sync/SyncType
Guest marisa4755 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Ok, after some help from someone over on the Spb forums, he told me that in order to get a successful installation of WML, it was best to uninstall any phone profile software first, then WML, then reinstall phone profile stuff, and it worked a treat. My device is not slower as it was before. Regarding the 'sync as items arrive' settings, I found that if I set this, then although if I went back to check the settings it appeared to be on manual, it was really on sync as items arrive. However, it seems fairly slow. I too thought it wasn't working as I signed on to my gmail account over the web and sent myself an email. After 10 minutes it hadn't arrived, so I used the sync option, and there it was. So, I assumed it wasn't working, but it was. I know this because I asked someone to send me an email with the time on it that they sent the email. I got distracted by something else, and 15 minutes later, there was the notification that an email had arrived, so it's definitely working, but seems at times to be a bit slow (especially compared to exchange server push mail which is virtually instant). The longest I can trace is around 20 minutes. However, there are so many other benefits that I think I will keep using it. It's free, I can use it on my hotmail account, messenger works great with it etc etc. Interested to hear what others are finding on this. In reply to the registry question, on my hermes (vario II) it says: HKLM/Services/Windows Live/Sync/SyncType 1

No, I said that I had sent myself an email from my gmail account to my hotmail account in order to test if the push was working on the hotmail account through live. This was so I could monitor the time taken for an email to arrive when I knew exactly the second it had been sent.
Guest Rob.P Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 (edited) Mine's the same takes about 10 - 15secs to get pushed through, I'm also suffering from the settings problem when you set it and then it reverts back. I also have spb phone suite installed, so when I can be bothered I will uninstall that and reload WLM (probably do it when WLM has an update), thanks for that tip marisa4755  Edited June 22, 2007 by Rob.P
