gpsVP is a full-featured GPS navigation software. Supports waypoints, tracks, multiple monitors. Compatible with vector maps for Garmin navigators. Freely available maps cover all the world with good detail for many countries. The program is intended for Windows Mobile for Smartphone 5.0 devices. And it's free.

gpsVP 0.1.3 - more convenient

I have released a new version. The main goal was to make gpsVP more usable and help people to see their maps.

The main new feature is a new option “Center on map” in map list (Menu->Maps->Map list). If you want to see a map you have opened, just use this option and then zoom in/out to find the levels on which your map may be seen. If you want to see your map on less detailed levels, you can change detail level in (Menu->Display->Detail).

Sometimes you need to see some portion of map while connected to GPS. Before now you could move a map but GPS would return you to current location. Now it’s gone. When you start moving a map gpsVP stops following your location. It will return to following mode in five minutes. Alternatively, you can choose “Restore follow cursor” from context menu.

Dialogues with maps and points have many different actions. To perform them you had to click Menu and then choose an action or press a shortcut key. Now you can press the shortcut key directly from the list. For example you can choose map and press 3 to centre on a map.

Smartphones does not have page up/down keys. But some lists are very long. As for me, I have marked more than 200 waypoints. Now you can press 9 to scroll any list one page up or 7 to scroll the same list one page up.

There are some other small improvements. Most of them are just internal.

gpsVP 0.1.4 - worldwide version

The main change is that now gpsVP must receive coordinates correctly everywhere. Before this version all coordinates were considered to be to the North of equator and to the East of Greenwich meridian. So it worked wrong in South Africa, Western England and in many other places, e.g. US icon_smile.gif

Another major update is that gpsVP now correctly reads street names from maps with routing information. Old map of Kiyv, for example.

gpsVP can now turn Bluetooth on if it is turned off when gpsVP starts. If you connect GPS receiver some other way you can turn this feature off and also tell me about this way.

Dialogues are completely rewritten internally but they have to stay as they were for you. If you see some problems with them this may be a new error. Please tell me.

Selecting receiver port has changed now it offers just many com ports, not only those found in system.

There are also some small fixes and improvements that are not worth mentioning.

This looks to be a great app, I've only used it a little so far but it has a lot of functionality and flexibility. A couple suggestions though - could there be an option to change to Imperial units? Also, I have been looking for a good program to switch the static navigation on and off on my GPS receiver - would there be any way this could be integrated into gpsVP?

Oh, one other thought - can the data be saved to the storage card?

Thanks!

No problem if you tell me what units should be changed :-)

I am not sure I will manage to do it. I have no device with such feature and will not be able even to see what I have done.

All the data used in program may be save to storage card. Do you have some problems with it?

Basically, all of the displayed units for the Odometers, scale bar, and so on only display in Metric, so to have those in Imperial would be great.

No problem with the Static Navigation, just thought I'd ask. (Though the BT-338 does have static navigation capability.)

The program is saving the tracks and things I make to the main memory. I take it I can just move that data to the stroage card and access it again from there? I guess what I would like in that regard would be to have it just automatically save to the storage card if that would be possible, so I don't have to move files around. If there is already a way to do this, please let me know.

You know, for you it is natural to know about different systems but we here use only metric. I can't tell exactly what units are used in Imperial system to represent distance, height, speed (maybe time?). If you tell me or direct to some page where it is described in detail it will be much easier for me to help you :-)

I'm sorry but I haven't invented a way to do it at setup time. But I can tell you how to tune gpsVP to store everything anywhere you want.

- Select a new location for your tracks from (Menu->Tracks->Set track folder)

- Copy your waypoints from "/My Documents/GPS waypoints.wpt" to a new location

- Open waypoints from new location from (Menu->Waypoints->Select waypoints file)

- Move worldmap from "/My Documets/GPS maps/world.img" to a new location

- Open worldmap from the new location

Is that what you need?

Yeah, Distance and height can be reflected in Feet (1 meter = 3.2808 feet) or Miles at a larger scale (1 Mile = 5280 feet = 1.609 Kilometer). Speed would simply be miles per hour.

Yeah, this will be a fine workaround.

Thanks!
