Unlock Samsung Blackjack for BirdieSync on Thunderbird

I just upgraded to a Samsung Blackjack phone on Cingular (AT&T) network. I installed BirdieSync for synchronization of my Mozilla Thunderbird email and contacts to Windows Mobile 5.0. I have no boxes to check-mark in ActiveSync because the phone is "locked". How do I unlock the phone so that I can use BirdieSync to synchronize Thunderbird with my SmartPhone contacts and email? Thanks in advance!
