Guest Webreaper Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 (edited) Okay, so currently I have an XDA Mini S. I've been out of contract for nearly 3 months, and was originally waiting for the Kaiser as a replacement. However, there's now talk that the device won't be available until October; frankly I don't really want to wait that long. I mean, every month I'm out of contract is a month I'm paying O2 without having them subsidise a new device (which I could sell in future once I'm out of contract). So, question is, what other alternatives are there? The key features I need are:Full PocketPC (i.e., not Smartphone) - there are PPC apps which aren't available for SP which I runGPS - I really need a replacement for my aging Streetpilot in my car, and want an all-in-one solutionSlide-out keyboard - I send a lot of texts/emails, and frankly the idea of being without a Qwerty keyboard and only having a stylus is just a non-starterWifi - some of the recent t-mobile devices have had this disabled which is, frankly, absurd.WM6 would be really good, but is not essential, as the main benefits I can see appear to be performance (and most devices have faster CPUs anyway) and HTML mail (which I hate ). The only device out there that I can see which comes close to fulfilling my requirements is one of the Eten Glofish range. I know a lot of people slate them because of the t-mobile GPRS issue, but it's less of an issue as I could go with O2 or somebody else. However, there don't appear to be any decent contract deals with the device, and I'm certainly not paying full-price for it. So, suggestions? Edited June 11, 2007 by Webreaper
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 The only device is the Eten M700 if you REALLY can't wait for the Kaiser... P
Guest burtcom Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 I got my Glofiish M700 from an E-bay retailer for about $600 including shipping, and I'm enjoying it immensly, especially after upgrading it to WM6...
Guest mikeeey Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) um.. nothing really.. cmon there's only 2 months left. have u seen the latest benchmark results of the 8525 and the kaiser? http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=256117&st=20 you're gonna regret not waiting.. :) especially when everything now is about $600.00. im sure the kaiser wont be too much more, and youl realize you could have spent just a little bit more and got a much better phone Edited June 24, 2007 by mikeeey
Guest fatgit Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I have to admit, I've been looking for an alternative, but found nothing. Maybe if certain phones had 3g..... My contract is up tomorrow, but I'm going to hang on in there for the Kaiser.

Last I heard it's going to be October or later before the main carriers get it in the UK. Although given that nobody knows a date, maybe that's pessimistic. I've no intention of spending anywhere near $600 (or £). If the handset ain't free with a contract, I ain't interested. :)
