Guest joe194b Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 I have an Orange SPV M700 sim unlocked and running WM6 ( LVSW_Trinity_WM6_v2.0.1.1). I'm thinking of changing service provider and have been looking at the 3(UK) network. Can anyone tell if 3 simcards work in the M700 and works with MMS, 3G and etc... Unfortunately i don't know anyone on 3 so i cant try this myself. regards Joe
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 It *should*, i'd like to get hold of a trinity myself. I have internet and exchange email working fine on a Jasjar and Treo 750v on 3 Mobile with X-Series. The only problem i'm having (and working on) is that their implementation of MSN means that PocketMSN/WLM Mobile/Agile etc do not work . My current theory is due to the fact 3 limit the number of MSN messages you can send each month, so they've bodged it somehow. Let me know if you need any help setting it up if you take the plunge!

Thanks for the reply Monolithix  I've read a few threads on various forums about people who have had the phone unlocked from 3 mobile only to find it still won't work with orange, vodafone and etc hence my question. i don't want to get stuck in a 12/18 month contract that i can't use my SPV M700 with. I went into my local 3 shop (Superdrug) LOL and they had a poster that said "add £5 for unlimited data" which seems pretty good to me :P and another one that said "add £5 for unlimited msn messages" This proves your theory that msn is locked unless you pay extra for it. Which is a shame because if your paying for unlimited data you should get unlimited msn aswell. It would be good to here from somebody that is using a Trinity on 3 mobile before i take the plunge. regards Joe

I'm on 3 and have Live Messenger working on my M3100 without any issues. I have X-Series Gold (10 quid a month) but I've read that 3 blocks some ports on standard X-Series (5 quid a month). You need to ask for X-Series Silver (also 5 quid a month) to have them unblock these ports (except for Orb & Slingbox ports).
Guest joe194b Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I've finally found someone on 3 mobile and tried their simcard in my Trinity and it works fine and the signal strength is better than Orange so its goodbye Orange and hello 3 mobile. Does anyone know the mms, internet settings for 3 or even better a cab file  thanks for your help regards Joe

I haven't tried 3 for a while but it used to be awful and a friend tried last year and gave up on them. Make sure you get a 14 day money bag guarantee and try it everywhere you will want to use it. If you are lucky then 3 do some good deals but T-Mob are, in my experience, far, far better - maybe you don't have T coverage in which case 3 are the only other operator with decent data prices.
Guest nuttyphilt Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Attached is a CAB with the settings. I've found 3 pretty good so far but then I got my contract about a week before moving to Australia for 3 months - the idea of free roaming was a good selling point for me and it's been v v useful here in Sydney. When I get back to the UK in August that'll be the true test :rolleyes:3UK.CAB
Guest Confucious Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I didn't know they did free roaming! That could be very useful, hope you find the UK network as good as the aussie one. Having fun over there?

Having fun over there? It's only free roaming on the 3 sister networks unfortunately but still better than nowt! Yeah it's good over here although it's been raining constantly for the last 10 days and we've a cyclone coming through tonight. And I thought it was always sunny down under
Guest mark4130 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I have gone to 3 (E61) from Orange (M3100) and the signal quality, call quality and pretty much everything else is better. I still have my Orange contract for another 2 months in the hope they give me a decent upgrade but Im starting to think I will just put the 3 settings in my M3100....

Guest joe194b Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I've been doing some more research on 3 mobile and apparently you can only use a 3 usim in a 3 authorised mobile (this is stated in their terms of service). To confirm this i went into my local 3 store and sales person said that 3 do random imei checks to confirm the usim is in a phone they supplied if not they suspend your account for not abiding by the terms of service. There is an interesting thread here http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=45677 which explains why 3 don't like non authorised mobiles on their network. I'll do some more research before i decide and thanks for the cab file. regards Joe
Guest nuttyphilt Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) From what I can gather, they don't seem to care what phone it is as long as it's 3G and that you haven't locked it onto 2G networks only. Whenever you're on the 2G network, you're using the Orange network and 3 have to pay for that roaming facility. The only adverse thing I've noticed is that I can't access any of the Planet 3 services, e.g. things like music tracks, videos, ringtones, TV, etc. That doesn't really bother me too much though. Edit: One other thing I should mention is that the USIM doesn't work on 2G only phones, in my case it doesn't work in my C600. Again I don't really care too much about that but it might matter to some... Edited June 21, 2007 by nuttyphilt
Guest Confucious Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 That's probably another reason they dont like it, you can't access their paid for services, like you say, it's mainly to stop people locking on to 2G only (I thought it was O2 they used?) which you can do with any non 3 phone. I would hope they would only block you if you did actually do that and not jusr because you have the capability of doing it but they could as you are breaking the T&Cs

Actually they give me a £5 a month allowance to spend as I want so I suppose that'll go to waste unless I buy something using the crappy LG phone I got with the contract. BTW, they used to use O2 for 2G but they've switched to Orange.
