Guest Samuran Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Hi I think this is the right place to post this, if its not Mods please move as you will. Anyone have any suggestions as to what PDA I should look at, or have good website suggestions that I can look at. I've been asked to look by my boss who thinks our department would benefit from a PDA to hold important information and easily move it in and out of the factory (I work for a meat production company and taking note books in and out isn't the best) Cheers
Guest Ovie Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 If it's just a PDA you're after, have a look at the iPaq RX3715, I had this and it's a great device.
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Also check out pdadb.net once you have a few potentials to compare specs
Guest chucky.egg Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 ...a PDA to hold important information and easily move it in and out of the factory (I work for a meat production company and taking note books in and out isn't the best) What form is the information in? Is it individual files, or records from a central database, or ... ? What quantity of information is there? Depending on the volume (Mb) you may need a "bigger" device What is the environment like? Presumably not dusty, but does the device need to be rugged, waterproof etc?

Presumably not dusty, but does the device need to be rugged, waterproof etc? The information will be pretty standard stuff, MS office documents, PDF. If possible it maybe used to connect to a central access based database to pull individual records. The size of the data isnt going to be massive, and if its possible to explore networked drives from the pda then the data can all stay where it is. The environment is cold, but I doubt it'd ever go below 5°C, especially as it is likely to be in hand or pocket. While there is water in the factory I dont think it'll be a hazard we need to worry about. The only thing that may put a spanner in the works is the stylus.... the whole dropping it into a pack of gammon thing! Cheers Ben P.S. I hate my new works laptop..... *grumbles* I'm used to the touch pad on my vaio at home....
