Guest John.6512 Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Hi All Im new here so appologies if this has already been covered, but a quick search didnt give me the answers I was looking for. I like many others have bought the new Orange e650 which on first impressions looks really good - except they decided in their wisdom to exclude the Windows Live element. For non technical people like myself, is there any source of getting this software so I can use this functionality - I understand from Orange customer services its more of a revenue issue and technical support issue as opposed to "locking" the phone from using this. Unfortunetly, I dont have the technical expertise of some on this site to hack the software. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Guest moham_i Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) Ok, I'm going to help you out because I was once in your position but after spending sever hours on Modaco id say im a semi expert of the SPV E650?! First I would back up any information that you might have on the phone and hard reset the device. The procedure to do this is by switching the phone off then holding down the 2 soft keys, above 1 and 3 and switching on the device at the same time. You will be prompted by a short message, tap the green call button. The device will be stored to factory settings now! Next step, you need to application unlock the phone! You do this by going on the following website, simply fill in your detail, make sure u put your mobile number as +44... and to get your imei number, simply look at ur box or type *#06# on ur SPV. They didnt email me the unlock cab, however I went on the site after a day and filled in the details again to get a download link for the unlock cab. Once you get this, store it on the device, and install it. This will decertify your phone so u can use third part software! (Note, you have to put the file through active sync ok) Here is the link. http://spvunlock.rd.francetelecom.com/ Next you have to further unlock it with another cab file called modaco extra unlock which I have provided at the bottom! Same procedure. Then my friend your ready to put on Windows Live! Ive uploaded that here aswell, simply install it through your computer and the job is done. You can adjust the setting in Windows Live so that msn can appear on your homescreen. Another thing that I did was to install Pauls E650 debrander, this take all the horrible Orange icons away and replaces them with nice Windows Mobile 6 icons, and it looks soooo much better, got to thank Paul for that again! That again is provided here for you! Simply run the cab file through you SPV! Hope this thread helped. EDIT: I have removed the Windows Live, as it is illegal to post non free share items. Plus i have added the latest 0.3 fix!MoDaCo_E650_ExtraUnlock.cabMoDaCo_SPV_E650_de_Brand___Fix_Pack_0.3.CAB Edited June 14, 2007 by moham_i
Guest Samsonite Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) i have never needed to do any additional unlocking so maybe its worth trying stuff before applying what are essentially Registry hacks - albeit very trusted ones!! i think you might need to be careful about the Windows Live application too... not sure on the legality of posting it here - maybe a Mod can advise... and the De-brander is now on version 0.3 - it includes the fix for the installation bug that many have experienced including me when i tried to install the Debrander and BugFix!!! edit - i paid £10.99 for the official MSN Messenger application and find it works fine on the device apart from a landscape/portrait bug. i'm hoping that the official Live Messenger is a freebie upgrade... there are a few options on messenger apps - i nearly plumped for Agile but only have MSN contacts so the extra IM environments (yahoo,AOL etc) didn't make the £20 worthwhile with a cheaper alternative available. Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 That's a current debrander / fix pack issue - please visit the debrander / fix pack topic for updates. P
Guest itsgottobedone Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 so how do i get the Windows Live app? I appreciate its illegal to share but having purchased the device that should give me the right to download from somewhere (?) I can't find it on the MS site and i'm reluctant to purchase and install the older MSN Messenger app. Can someone advise? Many thanks.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 No, that doesn't give you that right - you bought a device that doesn't have WLM, so you don't have a licence to use it. The application is in closed Beta for post-ROM install or is preinstalled on some WM6 devices. P
Guest itsgottobedone Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Thats disappointing and very annoying of Orange not to include. I guess i will have to wait for the Orange IM product ! Any idea if MS will make available to purchase separately as per MSN messenger?

Any idea if MS will make available to purchase separately as per MSN messenger? The Vodafone v1415 also has the Live features removed. Also from the Vodafone 120MB data bundle you are not permitted to use instant messengers or VoIP applications. I presume this is because some IM's will allow you to hold a voice conversation using a common VoIP protocol and the operators dont want that now do they, **I mean why should they let you have nice cheap or free calls from your device instead of there expensive tariff costs**, its only really hampering mobile communications because VoIP will be the way forward and would theoretically mean far cheaper call costs.
Guest GuyAdams Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Apologies if this is not aloud moderators (if so please PM me and I will remove the link straight away) This may be of help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1316798 I obviously dont agree with it because as Paul correct states if your device didnt come with it, your not licensed to use it. Thanks
Guest djsnookyuk Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 It seems when I try and get the security remover from orange it does not ever give me a file! how did people receive their file? my screen keeps saying please wait... this could take up to 1 min. and this seems to be on a loop... any ideas?
