Guest jimmod Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Hi all, Just got a S710 from work yesterday. I'm experimenting with video, or I would be if I work out how to do it. If I want to copy DVDs or downloaded AVI files onto the phone, what codec/format is best, and what application do you recommend for the conversion? Many thanks, Jim
Guest Millar Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I use CorePlayer 1.0.4 as it already has DivX, Xvid and lots of other codecs built in so you can just put video files direct from your PC onto your phone. However, if the video is too high a resolution for the smartphone and plays slowly I use Pocket DivX Encoder to size them down.
Guest brochard Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Hi, I use mencoder for encoding from DVD or any other digital media. You can get it from www.mplayerhq.hu. Xvid is codec with the best load/quality balance. I play my movies with the Core Mediaplayer (TCPMP). Though there current version is no longer free, you should be able to download an earlier version somewhere. This is the mencoder commandline I use: mencoder movie_before_encoding.avi -cache 1024 -vf scale=320:240 -srate 22050 -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts bitrate=300 -lameopts vbr=0:mode=3:br=64 -o encoded_movie.avi This will rescale to 320x240, and encode to 300 kpbs xvid, with 64 kbps mp3 audio. Plays perfect in tcpmp..
