C550 - Audio (in/out) affected by rubbery port cover...

A while ago, a problem with my phone developed in which audio (both the microphone and speaker) stop working and it has something to do with the rubber flap which covers the headset and miniUSB ports. If I fiddle with it, including pushing it in, pulling it out a bit or pull it and twist it round, I get my audio but you have to hold it just right. I was wondering if anyone's heard of this before - I couldn't find any information on the problem.

Perhaps incidentally, I noticed that while playing music over bluetooth, pushing a headset into the headset port, but not all the way (i.e. you have to hold it in about the right place), I get bass tones that I miss out on otherwise.

I just had to make an emergency phone call, and my phone crashed! This is what happens when you put Windows on a mobile phone! Imagine trying to call 999 in a foreign country (tried 112 but it didn't work) with a phone that crashes and cuts off the audio if you don't hold the rubbery flap just right! Luckily it was just an outdoor fire, maybe some rubbish or something (I didn't get too close) but it had largely gone out by the time the fire engine arrived! My next phone will run Linux!

There are lots of cases of audio cutting out completely due to dodgy headset connections, I think you might have a variation on this. Try wiggling a paperclip arround in the headset socket and seeing if that cures it.

As for Linux on a phone? Good luck!
