Noob question about Hermes ROM upgrade

I am looking into upgrading my T-Mobile MDA Vario II to WM6, but there are so many ROMS available, I don't know which one to choose, Faria, Black Shadow, Elf, Dutty, Schaps, 3des, Custel, LVSV, does anyone know what is the difference between all these ROMs?

Is there one that is more reliable?

Is there one that is better than the others or can I simply pick one at random?

Is there alreadu a post around about it around here and I have managed to miss it? (apologies if that is the case)
