Guest hrp2171 Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Hi, I'm trying to figure out what causes Activesync to load in the background when I'm using my phone. I have a Samsung Blackjack. Basically, even after I closed Activesync in Task Manager, it manages to start again. Is there a way to disable Activesync on the phone? Thank you.

Presumably you only use Activesync to sync with your desktop PC and you're not using any kind of push email via Exchange??? If you're just doing a sync with the desktop PC, then what you need to do is to configure a manual synchronisation schedule....these are the instructions for a Pocket PC device, but I think the same should be (pretty much) true for a SmartPhone :) (except of course, read "Press" for "Tap" ;)). 1. Go to Start | Programs | Activesync on your device 2. Tap the "Menu" soft key and tap "Configure Server" (may be called "Server Source") 3. Configure a server source with a dummy IP address (e.g. 1.1.1.1), user id, password and domain name; these do not have to be real. 4. Once configured you should have the dummy server as another sync source on the main Activesync screen, which means you can now set a schedule. 5. Tap the "Menu" soft key again and you should see that the "Schedule" option is no longer greyed out. 6. Tap on "Schedule" and change the setting to "Manual" under both fields (They will probably both be set to a value in minutes - 5 or 15 is the norm). Click OK when done. 7. Tap the "Menu" soft key, select "Options" and the Exchange server should be highlighted at the top of the list. Click the "Delete" button to remove the dummy server details and you're good to go!! 8. Next time you stop Activesync from the Running Programs list, it should stay stopped until you start it again :P Hopefully you can relate the above instructions to their Smartphone equivalent - if not, perhaps another Smartphone user would be good enough to provide you with a solution. Cheers, Mark.
Guest hrp2171 Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Thank you for the tip. The only minor change I made was to actually leave the dummy information in. If delete it, Activesync still loads in the background. I'm trying to save as much battery life as possible. That's why I was looking for a way to stop Activesync from loading by itself. Awesome!
