Guest nowimboard Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Hay people, I have just got a new laptop as my previous one has gone kaputt. But the new problem is that now I want to activsync up my contacts to my new laptop, windows wont let me sync up with out deleting the previous partnership, however if I deleted the partnership, I'd delete the contacts. Thus defeating the point! Is there a simple way around this?
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Why would you lose your Contacts ? When you create a new partnership you would choose to combine phone & laptop entries. Or have I missed something ?

Or have I missed something ? It says that I can only sync up contacts with one laptop/partnership. So I'd have to delete that partnership, but in doing so it wipes the contacts >_<
Guest Neil5459 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Deleting a partnership doesn't remove any data, it only removes the Sync log file and the connection information; in fact if you have a new PC, just install ActiveSync, and allow the New Partnership wizard to run. You should find that as long as the PC version of Outlook was empty, all the contacts and appointments will transfer from the PPC. If not, you will see the Conflict wizard which will give the options to replace items on My Device (DON'T select that!) or Combine Items. Select to combine, and the data will copy. You can sync contacts and calendar items with 2 PC's, but you can only sync emails with 1 PC, though creating the new partnership should make that PC the primary one.

I deleted the relationship from the new laptop and tried again. It took it that time after a few disconnects from the phone. Sorry to bother you all!
