Guest Too Risky? Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 I'm thinking of buying an SPV. But all the bugs and problems people are raising here have me concerned. Are theses issues really that widespread and annoying?
Guest yatpeak Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Almost all of the bugs on the phone have been sorted. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. There are bugs that are unsolved, though nothing really major. I strongly suggest that you get one, one of the best choices I ever made. Wyatt
Guest Too Risky? Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Thanks for the quick reply. So what are the uresolved minor bugs? And is the battery life really that bad?
Guest Gorskar Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Battery life is still not the best, but it should last you about 2 days providing you dont use it excessively in that time. Remaining bugs after update.... hmm..... theres still no character count in the SMS send. Can't think of much else.
Guest midnight Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 wouldnt class that as a bug tho, more on oversight on microsofts part, altho, does anyone know if you get an extra charge for sms's longer than 160 characters? i've been told we dont and if theres any truth in that then why worry about the character count  anyway microsoft say they are working it, so i suppose we should expect an update soon-ish as for bugs, there aint many to be honest, the only single complaint now would be the battery life, yes, it is short, but most people tend to charge it every night
Guest Maverick Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Yeah.. Go for it. all things said... its good value for money
Guest Myke Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Hey Too Risky , I was like you too. I was really excited to buy this phone, but I read every review there was and almost all of them were negative. I also came to this board and found people having problems. I then relized that most of the reviews were done the 1st month the phone came out and the reviewers didnt load it up with ANY goodies. Since then, there has been a major update that removed flaws, added programs, and helped the battery life. There have also been ways to Sim unlock the phone and program unlock the phone. You can put loads of great unsigned apps on like an NES & Gameboy emulator. i finally said ah screw the reviewers and i bought one. its the best phone i have ever used. I got rid of my t68i and my toshiba e740 (pocket PC), this thing took care of both of them. as for the battery life, its not a problem at all for me. I like to sync my phone every night, so i just pop it in the cradle before i goto bed. it syncs and charges overnight. it downloads all my mail for me and is charged and ready to go the next morning. if i ever forget to charge it, i bought a car charger off ebay that charges it very fast. the car charger can be separated from the cigarette lighter part of it and used as a USB sync cable/charger that i use at work. the calendar on this phone is amazing too. its easy to read. i keep all my dates in it. it syncs with outlook. its great. the programs are awesome too. the divx player lets you play full screen movies. with a 128 or 256 mb memory card you can loads it up with simpsons episodes or full length movies. i have personally found no bugs with this phone, or anything else that bothers me that much about it. the only downsides to it are that there are some features that werent included like sms letter counter, a separate box for sms and email, a built in picture to contact... but all these problems can be fixed with future updates, commercial, and unsigned apps (a few picture caller id programs just came out). so i would say GET IT NOW! : ) if you dont get it, the only reason you better give me is that you are waiting for the SPVx
Guest dan.peterson Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 And don't forget about the looks of the thing. Everyone says the T68i is girly, unlike the SPV. Well if the T68 it is all long blond hair and bouncy breasts, the SPV would be lank greasy hair, glasses, and a slight squint from staring at a computer screen too much. Its an ugly little phone (from the back especially), with the Microsoft etching doing nothing to make it any better. A better way to describe the look would be a PC ten years ago, against the T68 which would be a mac today. Maybe that is one analogy too far. Buy it if you are going to make use of the features- outlook calender esp, and all the other malarky. If you just want a phone that doesn't scream GEEK, leave it alone. Shame- it could have been good. SPVx should be more pleasing to the eye. DP
Guest martin Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 I assume dan.peterson owns an T68i. A topic that may interest you ? http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=6444
Guest dan.peterson Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 No T68 for me, but played with my G'friends. Its alright, bit boring- not much to play with, but fairly unoffensive Its just the shape of this phone that puts me off, the whole back of it with that oversize earpiece, like the head of some midwest inbred that turns me off. Not much else on the market though at this stage. (even thinking about nokias- shock horror). Any ideas? Still got my SPV in 14 day period, so going to see how the prices rise tomorrow.
Guest midnight Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 actually, i like the look of the spv, much nicer to look at than any other phone with a similar sized screen (and i hate clamshell units) most of the recent nokias are far worse to look at (ugh what where they thinking with the 3650)
Guest maber1001 Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 wait to SPVx comes out........................................................
Guest Vector Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Surely he can't wait THAT long.....
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I really thought it looked extreme ugly at the shop as well, but just thinking of all those nice features in this lil masterpiece, convinced me to buy it! When I brought it home, and customized it .. it just suddenly looked better! Sitting there in its cradle looking hot and flashy *inno* Anyways, I guess stuff/people just look better if they have a great personality *duck*! In other words .. not only will you get used to the way it looks .. you will come to appreciate it! *pats her phone* And I don't personally think the SPVx looks much flashier ... I will probably buy it tho, just cause the keys looks nicer on the thumbs! It's probably easier to write texts on it... *nod self* But it .. you wont regret it!
Guest madu Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Love it to bits!! Dunno how I could be without it now... If only my contacts/calendar sync didn't play up I'd be a totally happy bunny! Dunno how I lived with that sony z5 and siemens 25 before... If you can afford to spend some time on palying with the bugger - definitely a yes. It is gonna be your next BIG hobby... sad innit??
