Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 While looking at my Handango RSS feeds on new WM releases, I noticed Microsoft have just released Windows Live Search released for Windows Mobile. I've been using the beta for some time now, and I find myself using this app more and more. It's an excellent resource to have on your phone for directions, local searches, and traffic (in larger metro areas). The interface is excellent and intuitive. This is one app that should be built into to all new Windows Mobile Phones! Additionally, just before the full release, MS added GPS support. I havn't used this feature yet but it is a welcome addition to an already very cool app. Turn your Windows Mobile phone into a map, phone book, or city guide. Live Search for Windows Mobile helps you find places, map their location and get directions. Now all you need to get around town is right there in your pocket. Local Search: search the Microsoft Live Maps local search database for any business or residential listing based on keyword, name, or category- results are always up-to-date. Categories: friendly category lists allow you to search for the most common local places without typing. Restaurants, hotels, movies, nightlife, shopping, tourist attractions ? are now just one click away. Maps: view interactive maps that you can zoom and move around like you would on your PC- see road and aerial views. Directions: get detailed driving directions to your destination, both in text as well as displayed on a map. Traffic: check updated traffic conditions (red/yellow/green) in major highways, overlaid on your maps, so you can avoid traffic and get to your destination faster (available in select US cities only). GPS integration: Live Search connects to your GPS receiver to track your real-time position on the map, follow you along the driving directions, and perform local searches based on your location- some Windows Mobile devices include built-in GPS receivers- all other Windows Mobile devices are compatible with external Bluetooth GPS receivers (separate purchase required). Live Search is also available for WM2003 devices. To download your free copy, point your mobile device browser to http://ls.windowsmobile.com, and select the WM2003 download. Odd they chose Handango to distribute a free app. But that's how they distribute Voice Command so I guess they have a partnership going for software distribution. EDIT2: DOH! The link for MS's information is here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/liv...ch/default.mspx and direct download to the phone is here (from mobile phone only): http://ls.windowsmobile.com
Guest thelostsoul Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Wow this app's excellent! My brother's always bragging to me about his "Berry411" app on his blackberry. Now I have something to compete :)
Guest OzzMosiz Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Hasn't this been out for a while? I've had it on my phone since February!
Guest thelostsoul Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Hasn't this been out for a while? I've had it on my phone since February! Ah well...better late than never :)
Guest Thumper Net Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 you may have had it in febuary , so did i but that was the beta version that only had the us and the uk as country choices now with the latest version it has all the countrys so a good improvement and a plus to the phone :)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 If you had it since february, you were either signed up for the beta, or downloaded the program from someone who posted the beta app. It's new to everyone else who wasn't able to get in on it.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 Well, it's been available (in Beta) on http://wls.live.com for a LONG time publicly. P
Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 And here I thought I was special! I guess I shouldn't have posted it after all! :) Looks for DELETE TOPIC BUTTON.
Guest OzzMosiz Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks for clarifying. Is there any additional features from the beta (except for the additional countries?)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 not as far as ! can tell...except mybe GPS. But that was added a couple of weeks ago in the beta....but many may not have noticed.
Guest Rob_Quads Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Doesn't seem to pick up the GPS on my M700 :)
Guest Electronic Punk Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 It has now been updated to version 2! http://virtualearth.spaces.live.com/blog/c...!8910.entry
Guest soup dragon Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 It has now been updated to version 2! http://virtualearth.spaces.live.com/blog/c...!8910.entry Shame it looks like the Uk version doesn't get the movies and traffic feature yet...... but it's still an amazing application. Probably the best thing on my Hermes.
Guest psionandy Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Shame it looks like the Uk version doesn't get the movies and traffic feature yet...... but it's still an amazing application. Probably the best thing on my Hermes. the uk version seems to be still at version 1
Guest Electronic Punk Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Using the UK version here and it is version 2.0.2739.29907 Pretty sure I didn't grab the US one by mistake as it has all UK cities etc. available.
Guest Killian Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 It doesn't seem to want to work on mine. Keep getting an Exception Error and it shuts down........... any ideas whats wrong? Tried browsing around but nobody else seems to be having the problem :)
Guest rameses Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 I can't seem to get the GPS bit to work. It detects my GPS bluetooth thingy but doesn't then show any maps, just a grey back ground. I know I'm getting a GPS signal as my tomtom works fine for the same location.
Guest Blakey Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) Does anyone know how to find cash points in the UK with this software? I was looking for one yesterday and couldn't figure out how to ask it to find them. Fortunately I also have TomTom installed and it knew but I looked here first and was disappointed. [edit]: By the way, I have version 1 on my m600, installed off the above link. Is there a link to version 2 for the UK available anywhere? Thanks Blakey Edited July 20, 2007 by Blakey
