Guest zenabi Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Has anyone tried to record a gig using the Voice Notes function? You can get a lot of the gig on the SPV, but the main problem is the sound has way too much bass, so much that you can hardly make out what was recorded. Does anyone have any tips to reduce the bass going into the SPV? Or perhaps someones knows of how to adjust the EQ of the sound file post-recording (what frequencies need to be cut/boosted)?
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Would you really want to take your SPV into a gig? I bought my SPV because I destroyed my 6210 by taking it to gigs, and it got crushed in my pocket.
Guest pisquee Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 i guess that there are a few factors which give you bad music recording on the canary. 1. the mic is not music quality - it is there mainly for the phone - i.e. only spec'd for speach As is the rest of the signal chain - the A/D converter, the sampling rates. To fix you'd need to plug a real mic into the handfree socket, aswell as making the necessary cabling to get it in there, along with the obvious phantom power supply - not so much a portable recording rig now is it?! go and buy a minidisc!
Guest midnight Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 i tried recording someone in a pub once, and music was playing in the background, onceplayed back, just was just muffled noise, so i doubt very much you could record live music
Guest simonastro Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 I've asked in a few posts about audio specifications but really nobody seems to know 1. the mic is not music quality - it is there mainly for the phone - i.e. only spec'd for speach As is the rest of the signal chain - the A/D converter, the sampling rates. pisquee this is fair comment but where is your information from ? the mic situation is obvious but there is no data on the rest of the chain me 2 need minidisc !
Guest pisquee Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 just listening to the audio quality of a speach recording i can hear that the sampling rate is low, it is pretty fair to asume that the AD isn't of great quality - it doesn't need to be for a setup for recording voice.
Guest phoenix Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Some of the more "festive" members of my house have preyed on my SPV to record their sing-songs of cheesy pop. This is at very high volume with the backing track playing and it comes out pretty well with mild top level distortion. (soz about the major double entendre-not contrived  )
Guest casper508 Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 I've tried recording live music using voice notes but wasn't impressed by the quality. Infact I could hardly make out the recording. On the otherhand, sound from videos recorded using IA album comes out much better. If its the only the audio ur interested in then set IA Album to the lowest resolution and off you go. You can later use freeware to extract the music out of the clip. But then again, IA can only store short clips. Anyways just a suggestion. Cas
