Guest tomdbomb61 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I now have tomtom 5.2 installed and working on my E650, now all I need is a GPS receiver. When the phone uses tomtom it obviously uses BT which will run the battery down, so I am thinking in car charger for the phone, BUT the gps unit will require powering aswell, how have people got theirs set up? I remember when I had co pilot on my mini s that the charger split off in two one for phone and one for gps, is there such thing designed for the E650/Vox?
Guest Karl Denton Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I just bought my S710 so can't really comment on that. However, i intend to use it the same way as i did my i-mate jam. via Bluetooth to Fortuna Clip-On GPS. With both fully charged i could do a 2 hour journey before the Jam battery run out. The gps lasts for about 5 hours. I also have an in car charger. A 12V to USB adapter. The lead then splits to charge both the device and the gps. Hope this helps Karl

I don't know how the MediaTek chipset compares with SIRF Star III, but the specs and battery lifetime are impressive. If you do buy it, please report here how it performs. Update: I found a chipset comparison here http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Sp...ArticleId=19705 Looks like you can't do much wrong buying the i-Blue 737 Edited July 1, 2007 by jockyw2001
Guest tomdbomb61 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 Can you really go wrong with GPS units? I know nothing about them atall!
Guest jockyw2001 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 (edited) Can you really go wrong with GPS units? I know nothing about them atall! Yes, there are units with poor performing chipsets (slow, less channels, not so sensitive) and/or BT interfaces which are incompatible so you can't pair the unit with your mobile device. PS: see the last post here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.a...mp;whichpage=11 Looks like the one you found on eBay is a first generation unit. The current units are blue and perform better (5Hz update vs. 1Hz) Although my SIRF Star III device also has 1Hz and I'm perfectly happy with it. More important is there are apparently pairing probs with Treo 650: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.a...mp;whichpage=12 Edited July 1, 2007 by jockyw2001
