Hello,

im thinking about changing my current cell phone to a ppc. I need it basically to surf the internet, so i need a large screen (2,8" up) and a good browser that supports java, flash, and will view the web pages as i view them on my desktop (ill be using WiFi)...And it has to fit in my pocket =)...i have no price limits.....(it has to be unlockable).. I was thinking about the HTC Touch, but it appears to be too slow...anyone can help me? thx

I got myself an E-TEN M700 (with WM6 upgrade), and I am very very pleased with it.

In the past (when I was still working at Orange), I have been blessed and not-so blessed with a dozen of HTC and other PocketPC devices.

What you should realize is that the screen resolution is no where near desktop resolution, so browsing even in QVGA mode, can sometimes be a pain in the butt because you will have to scroll through the page resolution. Most browsers including NetForce, Opera (which you can install on your mobile) will support javascript, but not Java as in beeing able to run Java-applets (Java based programs which run embedded on your phone).. However.. You can run a widespread of actual Java application using the IBM Java for pocketpc runtime (free download). download the Adobe Flash player for ppc (another free download) to enjoy flash pages/movies. This is realy nice and integrates with the default Pocket Internet Explorer web browser.

If you have UMTS coverage, and dont mind the bill.. Go for an UMTS enabled phone, which will deliver you internet access at an reasonable speed.. WIFI enabled phones are faster (and mostly free),.. but you will have to connect to an accesspoint nearby... So if you get a combo UMTS/WIFI, you are pretty much settled.

The E-Ten M700 (Glofiish) might lack UMTS, but does come with a builtin GPS chip, so you can use TomTom, GoogleMaps and other navigational software to get you anywhere.

hey didnt you post almost the exact same topic here?

http://www.modaco.com/Smartphone-for-web-b...ng-t256611.html

except it was about a smartphone, until i convinced you a ppc was better?

well if you want speed, then i suggest the htc kaiser. it will be out soon, and it VERY fast in everything. it's 3mp camera and gps is great too.

yeah, im going for a PPC right now...but the Eten x500+ seems better than kaiser, it has a 7800 qualcom processor 400 mhz, gps also and vga screen... Does it makes a big difference surfing the web with a vga screen, instead of a QVGA?

for surfing the web yes. think of it as when u change your resolution on your computer. If your have it on 800 x 600 its hard to surf the web cuz u need to scroll a lot more, but when u increase the resolution it's easier. so for surfing the web VGA is better. however VGA requires more CPU power, which is why i prefer QVGA. mainly gaming and video is what im talkin about. You will find that if you run a game with a 400mhz processor and QVGA screen, and u run a game with a 400mhz processor and a VGA screen, the one with the QVGA screen will be faster.

also i dont like how most VGA screens are bigger, and cause the device to be bigger.

so if you want it just for surfing the web then i suppose the Eten x500+ is what you want, but i still like the kaiser.

No and no seem to be the answer.

i could have sworn opera lets you watch normal youtube videos on a ppc. but i also heard its slow. infact i thought i saw a video, or maybe it was screenshots.
