Pocket pc and laptop internet connecting.

Can anyone tell me how to use my M700 pocket pc as a modem for my lap top to connect to the internet. I have a bluetooth dongle for my lap top. I have used my lap top through my pc before but I have forgotten how I did it. I take it I will need different software that will run on my M700?

Thanks

Simon.

If its WM5, then you need the HTC Modem driver - which will allow USB or BT connection. This temporarily disables activesync and enables modem use. Google for it.

If Its WM6, then you have internet connection sharing - just click on it, click on BT and connect and then start a BT Personal Area Network on your laptop.

If & when you do succeed in doing this, watch the data charges :)

Orange do not allow PC Modem use with any of their unlimited bundles, nor do they allow any streaming. IM or VOIP usage. If you use your M700 for connecting from the PC, you may well be charged £3 per MB for data, even if you have a data bundle- their systems CAN detect what sort of connection you are using.

T-Mobile have a Web and Walk packege that does allow PC connection via the PPC- I think for about £20 per month?

£20? Streaming is allowed on the £7.50 package

IM and modem use is allowed on the £12.50 package (which is also HSDPA enabled)

The only thing you need to pay more for is VOIP which is £22.50/ month

@jimbouk - you have OWU which is not available to mere mortals.....

Thanks for all your replies. I am on the £5.00 evening and weekend Orange Internert access only. Does anyone know if I will be o/k on this or if I will be charged. I only want to use the lap top because of the larger screen.

You may or may not be charged! Their T&C for the service explicity excludes what you want to do, but whether they have the systems set up to monitor this is unclear.

Trouble is, the only way you will tell, is that you will receive a hefty bill (£3 per MB for the 1st 15 MB, then £1 per MB thereafter, IIRC), as data usage doesn't show up on your online account.

@ Confucious: Thanks for that- I didn't realise it was only VOIP that pushed it to the top tier- I suppose to compensate for the lost voice traffic :)

Thanks for that. I don't see the difference to them from using the phone or using your lap top through it. I would still be only using the same amount of time on the internet as there is a fair usage policy.

It isn't time specifically, but data throughput. Laptop/PC internet pages are much more 'content rich' than pocket PC versions, so you would be using a disproportionately higher amount of data, and hogging the data timeslots on a particular cell.
