Keeping the screen on

Please forgive me if thi has been asked before, I've done a search but no luck so far.....

Is there anyway I can get my T-Mobile Vario II to keep the screen lit and on when connected to external power. If I go into 'Backlight' and 'Power' in settings, and uncheck the boxes to turn off the screen and device while connected to external power it will keep the power on, and the screen lit up until I manually turn it off again, when the check boxes then default to ticked.

As I use the Sat-Nav quite frequently it is right royal pain to have to uncheck these boxes EVERY time I want to start the Sat-Nav.

Does anyone have a hack or reg fix that will cure this and enable those boxes to stay unchecked for good?
