Hyperterminal from an Orange M3100?

Hey all,

We are getting the engineers at work to use an Orange M3100 for commissioning our devices. To do so we need to speak to the units via hyperterminal either by a GSM data call or using a serial cable from the M3100 to the unit.

3 questions really...

Can anyone recommend some (preferably free) hyperterminal type software for the M3100.

Does a mini-usb to rs-232 serial cable exist?

Alternatively can the hyperterminal software be used on the phone and use the phones modem to dial the units GSM numbers? (will need to send AT commands to establish a connection then just stream text to it.)

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Russ

Since I use terminal sessions to configure equipment myself at work, this caught my interest. So I had a litle google :)

There is plenty of pocket terminal emulation software around it seems if you have a look on google. I have used one for telnet sessions but have forgot the name of it now.

As for getting a com port from the mini usb, that would depend if the port is a usb host and also drivers being available for the usb-serial adaptor.

Another option is a bluetooth-serial interface. It seems such things do exist! :P . Google brought this one up, but I'm sure you'll find others (in the UK) if you dig a bit deeper.

The GSM modem dialing direct, sounds feasable too though.. But 've no experience to advise you further.

hope that gives you some ideas

Neil
