Guest matth Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 been covered before a while ago. and i thought i had got this sorted (removed the GPRS resume value from the registry) but alas i have not. got the train up to york yesterday, all the way up my e650 kept displaying the little G next to the signal bars. nothing was running on the phone, IE was off as was Messenger and i had no outgoing MMS. even if it is only a bug causing the G to appear. it's still a nuisance. is there any fix to prevent this appearing, apart from killing the phone app in comm manager or creating a GPRS account with no values in connections. The bug is definitely signal related. if left stationary in one place (i.e not a moving train) nothing happens. very odd.
Guest Samsonite Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 The bug is definitely signal related. if left stationary in one place (i.e not a moving train) nothing happens. hmm.. mine does it overnight sat in the kitchen - i'm not on a cell-border or anything daft like that so i would debate the moving from cell to cell aspect... i reckon its just a undocumented feature we all have to live with...!
Guest Fizz_daz Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 I have the same problem with my c650...
Guest Fizz_daz Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 aggggg driving me mad... someone must have an answer
Guest ICQ_Eagle Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Shouldn't the G be an E in western countries meanwhile? So if you have EDGE service usually, then the displayed G is most likely only a bug and nothing is really connected.

Guest Espensodal Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 I have this problem with edge, not gps, though edge is always available here. I use this phone at work, and have it docked beside my desktop, but after getting this phone i can forget to ever use my desktop loudspeakers. the phone is constantly with a few seconds intervall sending out signals when the little E shows up (and ofcourse those signals is ticking into my speakers) This is ofcourse very annoying, and, seeing as i will be charged for those constant communication issues, its also annoying on the wallet, paying for things i cant stop from happening.
Guest highlorddave Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 I have the phantom G (sometimes E) problem too The bugger is quite stubbon and insists on continually returning even though nothing is running. Only thing i have found that helps is a quick power off then on, but thats not always convienient.
Guest skazz Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 have any of you tried the answer posted in various other E650 posts? "Go to: HKLM-->Comm-->ConnMgr-->Planner-->Settings-->SuspendResume and delete ~GPRS! value." I'm sort of wondering whether or not to try it, but I know the GPRS thing isn't costing me money, just potentially battery power.

Registry edit doesn't rid the phantom connection, it will disconnect it temporarily. It's like a turd that won't flush.....damn thing keeps coming back no matter what you try :) Edited July 25, 2007 by paholman
Guest jjmartinez Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Same problem here!!!!! And another strange thing I´ve noticed is that, sometimes and with no reason, the big G would disappear, even though there is good GPRS coverage. A friend of mine who owns an iPAQ 514 (also a WM6 smartphone) has noticed this in his phone too. :P I have the strange feeling WM6 for smartphones has some strange bug with the GPRS connection management. :)
Guest ICQ_Eagle Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) When the big G disappears, then there is no GPRS coverage anymore. How can you tell that the display is wrong, do you have an inbuilt antenna yourself? :) I have the S710 now since 2 months and never noticed the slightest problems with that, the big E (this country has full EDGE coverage) is absolutely steady. Just a Nokia E50 and a HTC Touch that show good GPRS coverage.
Guest dr.crippen Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Mine is the Orange SPV E650 version, and yes it randomly starts connecting via GPRS despite having a good wireless connection. It also regularly changes its Outlook Schedule to collect email 'As they arrive' (from an exchange server) - I have this set to 'manual' off peak; then the only way I can reset this is to remove the battery and reboot, a restart by itself is not enough. So, I have emailed HTC support asking for a bug fix, or a GPRS 'off' switch or at least a message that seeks confirmation before connecting. I have also emailed my provider (Orange in my case) asking for the same things and also alerting them to the fact that this is a connection that the equipment they have supplied is making all by itself, and as such is not authorised (by me, the account holder) and therefore I will not be liable for the costs. I suspect that they will threaten to disconnect me and that I will quote various Services and Telecommunications Acts and I'm sure it will probably get messy before they fix the problem(s), however I urge you all to take the same steps and complain in the strongest terms, and threaten to not pay for the random connections that these phones are making. They will listen in the end if enough of us make a fuss! I do like the phone, and as such do not want to return it (them, I have several), I just want it to work properly.
Guest DaveGrohl Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 The only thing I can think of is that you may have windows update set to automatic. I have mine set to manual and I have never had this problem. To check go to Start>Settings>Windows Update then change then schedule to manual. Hope this helps. :)
Guest jjmartinez Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 I have Windows Update set to Manual but the GPRS connections continue appearing now and then. I also own a HTC S310 (Oxygen) with WM5 and have never seen this behavior before.
Guest Jack Tong Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Some stupid suggestion... I don't know how to program and don't know about the registry so don't know if it's possible and just want to ask those who understand the registry and know how to program First suggestion: The GPRS will stop when the phone's in roaming state (or ask you whether you want to connect before it actually connect) So is there anything that you can do with the registry to fake the phone that you are roaming? So that you can write a program to turn that on/off at certain time period? Second suggestion: You need to have a GPRS profile (specific APN) for you to connect to GPRS (only for unlocked phone?) So is there anyway to write a program to change the APN or hide/remove the GPRS profile and change it back later?
