Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Whats the best way to back up the phone prior to knocking the certification on the head? I have tried copying files over to the pc, but of course there are files which are in use and cannot be moved. I am guessing that 'backing up' should be centred around other thigs like contacts and other applications. Is this correct? Cheers.
Guest meaks Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Just use orange backup from the phone. It backs up all your contacts for you
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Thanks. Does orange backup cost anything? Someone told me it did.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Pretty sure it doesn't...
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 Cheers Monolithix. Am doing it now - no word of any charges. Next stop: unlocking the phone. I want to have a look at Notbad, and tetris. ;)
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I had 2 goes at unlocking the phone last night. Neither worked. Questions: When altering the two .provxml files, do you just copy these to the PC to do this, or actually cut them from the windows directory on the phone? ie. Should the originals be on the phone when doing the hard reset, awaiting replacement by the two altered files, or do you copy the two altered files back to the Windows directory which does not contain these two files at all? Another one: Timing is apparently critical for placing the two files back in Windows on the phone. Any idea as to what might consitute the proper time to do this? Cheers.

Copy the files from the phone to your PC and edit them before you start the hard reboot. I think they need replaced on the SPV, but can't be sure. I find if you don't wait after the Orange Sunset screen changes to the Blue Windows screen then ActiveSync doesn't connect to the PC until after the phone's finished loading. So wait a few seconds, plug it in and as soon as you can, copy the files across.
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Cheers Bazz... I'll give it another go tonight.
