ok, apologies up front but i feel the need to ask some very fundamental questions that i am struggling to find from a search [ probly me searching badly too ;-) ]

1. what is the link between Rom and O.S and Radio - are they one and the same or can you update either independently?

2. What happens when you hard reset? Is it the Rom being 're-deployed' to the device?

3. i have a Lobby 700tv, where is the Dab receiver (tv/radio) program stored, is it part of the Rom, part of the O.S or just an additional program??? I know I have to be careful about Rom discussions i was just interested to know some really basic info!

In an ideal world I would love to get wm6 on my lobster but obviously retain the Dab functionality, it seems this is a total no-go??

Sorry for all the very basic questions but I am very keen to get some knowledge and didnt know how to get over the initial stupidity hurdles!!!

cheers,

dan

Heya.

1) You can update either independently yes.

2) When you hardreset the phone is kind of being reflashed to its original state after you flashed the ROM, although I wouldn't recommend hardreseting the lobster as you will lose your licence and Virgin are too crap to resend it too you because they don't know how and you will have to wait to the beginning of your payment month when your Licence comes through!

3) Smartphones don't have extended Rom's so the TV/Radio program will be stored as part of the O.S I think although hopefully someone who's smarter than me can confirm that.

I seriously doubt that WM6 will be officially released for lobster as well as that there is no unofficial WM6 ROM out for the lobster although people have hacked the WM5 ROM to run on the C550 (HTC Hurricane) so anything is possible.

Hope Ive helped a little.

Yes, the TV/Radio program IS stored in the OS, and smartphones don't have extended ROMs like you said...

Sorry for the silliness hehe :)

For all your ROM hacking help I can definitely recommend www.xda-developers.com as one of the best forums for that kind of thing.

As for the legal uptake I am not sure but I do it anyway muhaha :P (yeah thats not as wild as I intended it to be) but hopefully a moderator or someone that knows the legal take will drop in and explain.
