Guest jasthegooner Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Hi, After playing golf in very heavy rain, my Vario II got a bit wet whilst in the golf bag! Its now not starting up. I think the screen may have got some moisture in there although there is nothing visible on the screen. Apart from drying it out overnight, and trying again tomorrow is there anything else I can do or try? Would T-mobile fix it for a price, as I own the phone and am not on a contract as I use my company's sim card in it. I really like this phone, and use it for everything, and will be lost without it, therefore any suggestions (serious ones anyway!) would be gratefully excepted. Cheers, Jas
Guest evolution400 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 The price you pay T-Mobile will prb be same price as buying a new phone I suggest trying a local mobile store and see if they have repair center. Or if you know anyone on Contract with T-Mobile maybe they can try and return your phone for you because your phone did originally come from T-Mobile I know the vario II has 2 year warranty so you may be lucky there if you have a good friend :)
Guest psionandy Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Here's some advice that was given to me by a friend... The absolute FIRST thing to do is Remove the Main Battery. (having a rechargeable/non-removeable one is a negative point, in this situation). Next, holding your device firmly, sling it in wide arcs (downward), alternating each of the four sides) to remove as much excess fluid from inside the device, as possible. Then find some gentle, always-on heat source, such as your PC monitor or TV, something that is always on, but only feels warm. If it feels warm to you, than it's probably over 100°F ....plenty warm enough for the next step. Find some way to prop your device vertically...--not horizontally (ie; Screen Up), (with the SD/CF Slots, or the "openest" opening UP), on your heat source. (bricks, books....anything that you can contrive to keep your device vertical FOR SEVERAL DAYS. Then do just that....leave it there, fuggetaboutit, make believe you don't even own one of 'em. After about 2 days, three's better....or more, depending on the severity of the liquid intrusion.....go look at it....don't touch it....just look at it. If you can still see any evidence of moisture.....leave it another couple'a days. (you got mucho buxx invested here, whats a few days)? After you see no evidence of moisture ---untouched--- pick it up and examine it closer. If all is clear, put the battery back in (hopefully recharged in the cradle during the wait), and give it a go. If it works....you're good-to-go. If, after checking, you see evidence of moisture.....--or-- it doesn't work after putting the battery back in, give it a few more days. If it's not working after more than a week............well, have you ever heard the term SOL?? Unless you have accidental damage cover, start looking for another One. There is a "Wetness Indicator" inside the device that will let them know if it's got wet or not, should you try to return it for "other" reasons. If you DO have accidental damage cover ....call them as soon as the "accident" happens......you'll have another one, PDQ. Before any of this may happen. always remember to Back up! Back up! Back up! .....early & often.
