Nice! It's not often networks themselves provide upgrades to the latest major release of Windows Mobile. In fact, I can't remember any! (in the UK at least)

Re: OFFICIAL O2 WM6 available NOW!

Well we all can forget for a few days .. sent O2 a email stating the obvious .. there links are not even setup to download .. this is the response

Hi Rob

Thank you for your e-mail.

The reason why you are unable to download the upgrade at the moment, is due to the software still being in the testing stage. We have requested that the link is removed for the time being, until the update is available for download.

The software should be available in the next few days, so we would advise just to keep checking periodically.

We apologise for any inconveniences caused, and if you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

Brian

I have just entered my serial number and it says it is not a valid seriaL NUMBER - and I do have it entered correctly.

is this just a symptom of it not being ready yet?

Take a trip over to XD Developers site jonmck...look into the Artemis forum and find the topic abaout upgrade wm6....some users have loaded the file you need onto a mirror site...you just need to download it...no need to enter you SN into the O2 site.....then follow instructions to install...remember to backup all important addresses and phone numbers first......

I updated my XDA Orbit to Windows Mobile 6 from the O2 site but the supposed Office 2007 support is non existent. The Word, Excel and Powerpoint on the phone don't open any of the new Office 2007 formats such as docx, xlsx and pptx

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong????

I updated my XDA Orbit to Windows Mobile 6 from the O2 site....

So you managed to download via the O2 site?

I have the same problem as above - it says my serial number isn't right!

Tell me, how many characters does your serial number consist of? Mine starts SZ and has 12 characters (this doesn't include the final (checksum?) character after the space. However, the examples on the O2 site (SZxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and HTxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) both have 16 characters.

How annoying - I was looking forward to trying (official O2 version of WM6) :)

Correction! I was using Firefox, but gave it a try in IE and it worked!

So here goes nothing.....

Anybody know what the differences are between version 5 and 6? Just the major things, and nothing fancy.

On the Microsoft site I couldn't find a differences list.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm thinking of upgrading my O2 XDA Orbit to WM6 but I have a few questions. I bought my device off ebay as a brand new unlocked device and am using it pretty successfully with a T-Mobile PAYG card. My only issues are that the phone crashes now and then (maybe 3 times a week but some of it could be due to pressure on the power button when it's in my pocket) and it is a bit sluggish. I heard that WM6 is noticably quicker than WM5 and I would hope that some bug fixes would possibly increase stability hence my desire to upgrade.

My big question is, if I download the official O2 upgrade, will that then re-introduce an O2 network lock code into the device so that I need to go out and find someone to unlock it again?

I don't particularly want the O2 branding so, especially if the O2 download will re-lock the device, then have any O2 XDA Orbit owners successfully updated their device using a generic HTC 3300 WM6 download? If so then which one?

As part of the ROM update process, does ActiveSync (I am running 4.5) offer to save the previous ROM image first so that it is reasonably easy to roll my device back to its current state if I hit problems?
