Messenger & Windows live

I don`t use GPRS on my phone as I have so much free wireless access wherever I go. This causes a problem when trying to use windows live or the messenger that comes pre-installed with windows mobile 6 as these only connect through GPRS or network if the USB cable is connected to a PC.

Does anyone know of a hack or setting to get these to work over wireless?

Thanks

SP

Have you tried deleting all the gprs and wap settings?

It is designed NOT to work over WiFi AFAIK there is no hack to get it to work but it I'm sure someone will get round to it.

works absolutely fine for me, with all the other connections having been deleted

interesting - it's not supposed to! MS tried to stop people using it with WiFi but obviously haven't succeeded!

an alternative suggestion (which I haven't tried) from the beta newsgroup:

go into the connection settings in your phone and change the "preferred networks" to "Work" from "Gprs" connection as the default

Where did you hear it doesn't work over wifi; if the connection type is automatic then wifi takes precedence on all internet software.

My GPRS settings are empty, can't find anything under wap!

I found preferred networks for Internet Explorer mobile and changed this to "work" and its fine over WiFi, but can't find anything for windows live / messenger.

I have ROM version 1.15.405.2

When i had my spv e650 orange had removed the windows live feature but i managed to find the beta and install it, and that worked over my wifi no probs the only prob i noticed with it was when you left the handset the wifi turned off after a certain amount of time (i guess you can change this in an option somewhere but i couldnt be botherd) and therefore windows live disconnected it reconnected instantly soon as i started using the handset again tho
