Hi all,

I just received two phones that I bought second hand and since I can't choose between them I am thinking of using them both. So, I also want to activesync them both to my pc. The idea is that I will have the same contacts etc. on both phones and the pc. Is that possible?

The phones are i-mate SPL and i-mate SP5. The pc runs XP and has activesync 3.7 installed with a partnership to my now deceased i-mate SP3i.

Many thanks for your suggestions!

E

Hello ewel.

You can easily synchronize two phones to one computer with seperate partnerships. When you plug your new phone in it will prompt you to create one etc.

Although annoyingly you cannot yet synchronize two phones at the same time.

I think you need Activesync 4 or higher for WM5 but don't quote me on that, you might get an error on your phone if I am right though.

I have a SPV3100 and a C550 and they both sync perfectly.

I am very glad to hear this, it would be nice to sync the SPL normally and the SP5 over bluetooth.

I should probably search the forums first before asking this, but is it possible to sync over wifi? I expect the range would be better than bluetooth.

Yeh you probably should search :) I love how you wrote that instead of actually doing it though haha.

Activesync used to have the capability to synchronize over wifi, I think this was in version 3.7 and below or something.

Anyway, Microsoft decided to remove it from all the Activesyncs above this version (for security reasons) and tell WM5 devices that they can't synchronize with anything lower than version 4 I think it is.

So no you cannot synchronize over wifi annoyingly and you still can't in vista with WMDC!!

I think the only issue you will have is you can only synch emails with one device

That's a pity - both the lack of wifi sync and the email sync on one device only. As to the wifi I am amazed that out of so many software makers for WM nobody has tried to solve this yet. Regarding the email sync I'll see though if a way around would be to log into XP as another user using the same Outlook data file.. not a very elegant solution but good enough to keep the second phone up to date every now and then.

I never got into the whole Outlook email synchronizing thing so I either use POP3 sync on the phone or Hotmail HTTP sync with the Messaging app.

Couldn't you use email sync with your SPL using Outlook and wifi to synchronize a pop3 or Hotmail account on your SP5?

I've synced emails on more than one device, annoyingly only when I forget to disable email syncing as it's one feature I personally never use :)
