Randomly unable to get to contacts or calendar?

My first posting to what looks to be a pretty useful forum. I have just got an Orange SPV E650 (previously a Palm-junkie). Several times a day, with no obvious explanation, I end up being unable to get to one of the main functions - so far either contacts or calendar. As I write, it is contacts that is missbehaving - if I click on the screen-top icon, nothing happens; the right hard key says contacts too, but that does nothing; even if I go to start-address book-contacts, nothing again. I can look up a contact by typing in letters or a number to look up, but otherwise zip. If I shut down and restart, all is fine again, for a bit at least.

Anyone experienced this? I couldn't see it mentioned anywhere. Have I got a duff phone?
