Guest cranked Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Is anyone using the Vox on Cingular (now AT&T) successfully with both WiFi and WAP? I found some settings on this page, but I feel like my EDGE speeds are really low... (Settings On Other Site) If I switch to Wifi, I have to turn the phone off so that the phone uses the WiFi settings. If anyone has a setup that is working well for them, I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks! I have these same settings with AT&T. It works for both, but I agree that the EDGE speed is slow. I'm just not sure if it's slower than it should be, or if EDGE is just that slow! Google.com takes about 10 seconds to load on my S710. Jon

Jon If I do a speedtest on bandwidth place with my wife's Blackjack (3G turned off, EDGE on), I get speeds of ~900Kbps. If I do the same test on the S710, I am around ~150Kbps. Not sure if the Blackjack is different somehow, but it is much faster...

And while the Blackjack has a much faster CPU, and a faster CPU could improve apparent download speeds in terms of rendering the content, it seems unlikely that the differential would be that great without 3G being in play. Hey - why don't you look at the settings in your wife's blackjack to see if the settings match your S710? I just tried bandwidth place's speedtest and I got the following results: At default clock rate (186mhz) in Opera Mobile browser: 56k At default clock rate (186mhz) in Mobile IE browser: 70k At overclocked CPU rate (252mhz) in Mobile IE browser: 46k These are awful specs, but my phone does have the "E" logo showing that it has EDGE connectivity at full reception bars (??). What the heck am *I* doing wrong? It seems to get 'stuck' many times during the test where nothing is downloading for 15-20 seconds at a time. Jon Edited August 15, 2007 by JDRoss

Thanks! OK, I have successfully set up my phone for Cingular/AT&T. However, I still can't get the VOX/S710 to default to the WLAN connection instead of the GPRS when I am connected to a WiFi hotspot. Is there a setting I am missing?

My EDGE speed is terribly miserable, but when I hook into WiFi, it seems to default to this connection automatically. I say "seems" because the response seems reasonable when I have WiFi connection, vs the horrible EDGE performance I'm getting in King of Prussia, PA.

I just did a few tests with both Wifi and phone on, and was getting ~300kbps. Turned the phone off...~300kbps. Turned the WiFi off...~100kbps! I guess we just get better EDGE speeds in San Francisco...I am in NYC right now...my wife will be here this weekend, I will run the speedtest then and confirm the drop. Thanks for the heads up! That saved me a ton of time...
