I got my hands on the i600 Service Manual and was able to identify where the chip would be integrated into the board, if it was actually there. To my recollection, none of the respondants to this thread ever actually made comment to this extent. All I noticed was one member physically opened his device and was only able to identify the BlueTooth chip. He did not specifically state that the WiFi chip location was vacant. Funny enough, I wouldn't expect that it is equipped though... I believe the BlueTooth chipsets differ between these two phones.
