Hi,

I've just goy an SPV, and have a few questions...

- I can't backup or restore from ActiveSync, as these options are greyed out

- I can't seem to change the background. I've copied some images into IPSMApplication DataHome but I've looked in the Settings:Home Screen, and I don't get any options other than Camper and Surf.

Do I need to edit the xml profile files ??

If you want to change your background, make sure that they are 176 X 180 pixels (you can get some off smartphony.org). It will show them otherwise but they will not be re-sized unless you have IA album (you can get it from www.handango.com/orange-cobrand ) it will automatically re-size them. They can be jpegs or bitmaps, I haven't tried anything else.

.xml files are for themes, not backgrounds. If you want to use these you must copy the .home.xml file and the picture file into the directory you mentioned and select the .home.xml file in home screen layout (settings - home) and the image that came with it in background image.

I don't know about activesync, if I want to back up some files you can just drag them out. If you want to backup the information on your phone (contacts etc.), use orange backup. I have no idea how this works since I don't live in Europe but most people use that when hard-resetting their phone etc.

All you can do is sync certain types of data (contacts/calender... etc) or manually copy files. In ActiveSync Backup/Restore refers to backing up the whole phone (programs, settings... etc.). This is currently not possible on Windows Smartphone.

P.S. I haven't got ActiveSync on the computer I'm currently on some can't be sure, but think this is the way it works.

Re:Backdrops

I found the problem with the backdrops with that the site I downloaded SPV backdrops from, had them with the file extension .jpeg not .jpg, and though the file association works fine on the PC for viewing these files teh SPV doesn't recognise them.

Re: Backup and restore

Strangely under Win98 this menu is greyed out, but under XP the menu is enabled however when I try to do a backup it says "disk full", which I know isn't the real error.

However it may be something to do with my ZoneAlarm firewall settings.
