Guest UndeadDevil Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 (edited) People over XDA-Dev's have got there hands on what is ment to be the Test Version of T-Mobile's WM6 UK ROM for the Vario II. Did they finally listen to us? Finally we'll be able to flash it without worrying about warranty ;) Screenshots Attached Edited September 2, 2007 by UndeadDevil
Guest jchamier Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 Wow, that would be quite good, looks like it might be even later than the HTC official ones. (Perhaps T waited until the HTC europe official one was released last month, and then started testing?)

I haven't been over on XDA for ages - whats the authenticity meant to be like on the ROM? Not just a mockup? Anyone actually using the ROM for stability testing? I am nearing upgrade time anyway so would be happier to flash a cooked ROM but it would still be nice to have the official ROM. I'm still loving the Vario II and could keep using it for ages, since the only thing appealing to me in phone world at the mo is the Vario III, and I am NEVER going to get an 18 month contract again so the upgrade price is likely to be steep. PS - Devil, have you got a linky to the VPN AP that you allude to? I have been too busy to play with my phone lately but that sounds fun. EDIT - Why is there a link for TomTom on the Start menu list? Is this the Vario III ROM? Edited September 6, 2007 by Dr Who
Guest stevej26uk Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Kewl Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, just signed up for 18mths and got a vario II but have had lots of problems, cos of a 3G problem in inverness the handset struggles to stay on 3g, was hoping a rom upgrade would be out soon and esp wm6. Where did you find pictures and any news on possible release date ?

Where did you find pictures and any news on possible release date ? Last I heard T mobile were still sticking to the story that there would be no WM6 upgrade for the Vario II. This is despite the surfacing of a Tmob test build on XDA developers. This could just be an internal build and may never be released tho. Personally I think that the there is little to be gained from the 3.60 Rom base that it uses compared to the very stable 3.57 bases. Some have found that the 3.57 is more stable as well. I guess in this case it is warranty issues that are your problem tho, so you would need an official upgrade. ( I fear you may not get it)

( I fear you may not get it) Yeah warranty issue a bit scary, since the phone is only a few weeks old, im not even that bothered about wm6, more an improvement in signal quality, which apparently can be helped using different radio version, but again I'm, wary of just upgrading that unofficially !!

I didn't take those screenshots, although I am now using the OS from this ROM (See sig) For the VPN access point you need to phone T-Mobile up and get it activated, you have to tell them you need to use a Microsoft PPTP VPN. They can get funny about it, you'll know once you have it as you'll see it listed in your My T-Mobile Extras (Where is says 2048/448 HSDPA) I notice I get better speeds from the VPN AP as well as incoming connections, although I'm unable to access T-Fav's/T-Zones or Mobile TV.
Guest Dr Who Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 I am now using the OS from this ROM (See sig) rom Sig - TMobile WM *6* not 5????? Tom Tom is not in the base default ROM you installed then? Thanks for the info about the VPN, will give it a whirl.
Guest stevej26uk Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Anyone heard anything from tmobile is a release likely or not a chance ? The device is due a rom upradge in my view, ok only minor bugs and a dreadful radio stack but most of the mda series have recieved upgrades at some point, so why not just add wm6, htc did it for goodness sake the networks should follow by example
